      What kind of computer?
      MAC- Garageband(Included)/Finale Notepad (Free Download)
      PC- ???/Finale Notepad (Free download)

      Finale requires knowledge of music.

search some up in google, i'm sure you will find something. What do you need it for? Recording live music, or what?

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

Wow, I had no idea all that was included in Ubuntu Studio! I'm getting those programs the next opportunity I have.

      using plain *buntu
installing the 'ubuntustudio-audio' package from the repos will give you all the audio apps

You may want to install the real-time kernel
(Again, it's in the ubuntu repos - linux-2.6.xx-RT if memory serves me)

has much lower latency than the generic kernel, which is important if you're using midi to control external devices or doing real-time processing on audio files

I have Windows, so... yeah. =/
And by create, I mean make music directly on the computer and edit it. Sort of like Guitar Pro or something, but with a lot better sounds and stuff.

Awesome, I'll get that either tonight or tomorrow. Been wanting to mess around with some of this type of stuff for awhile.

Audacity, plus a good music studio. There are free ones, Anvil Studio is one I think.

Would this fix my MIDI playback? I'm finding if I just do this:

      Code:
      timidity filename.mid
on the command line, it works great...

However, if I correctly configure any other midi player (kmid, pmidi, etc.) to connect to my running timidity daemon, it basically plays just the first note. Very annoying.

Actually, I'm more focused on the creating part. I already have Audacity, and my friend can use it pretty well, so I just need something that lets me make music directly on the computer.
