      Looking for a good amp

I have a piece of crap electric guitar to learn on, and I need a piece of crap amp so I can hear what I'm playing.

Will accept used as long as it's in working condition. Smaller is better. Cheaper is WAY better. Just not a pocket amp.

I already checked eBay and didn't find anything to my liking (impossible, I know )

I know a lot more about guitars than I do about amps, meaning I can basically give you like 3 companies that make amps. Yeah.

So any recommendations, offers, etc. are welcome here. Thanks

      LD Tasks:
      [ ] Have a bloody LD
[ ] Play lead guitar and/or vocals in a rock concert with TONS of people (yeah I've been playing a lot of Rock Band lately... lol)
[ ] Beat the tar out of select people...

Wal-mart doesn't sell guitar amps. Unless, of course they sell amps that go to those little First Act guitars they have for little kids, which I doubt is what he's looking for.

I find it hard to believe you couldn't find anything on eBay.

      Especially when there are:

      Well I was being cynical.

After all, eBay has to have SOMETHING unless you are looking for a free amp, and even then some people do just give things away on eBay.

      BTW @ Stephen

I got a great little Peavey amp off of eBay for about $50, a while back, to travel and practice with.

It's kind of like this one, and I think it sounds good, for what I paid for it.

If that's not quite what you're looking for, could you be more specific?

Hey guys, thanks - I guess my problem was I typed in things like "Amp" "Marshall Amp" "Fender Amp" and "Crate Amp" lol. So that Peavey looks great - I would like a few options though, so don't stop posting.

And I'm not looking for a first-act that's made for parents who don't want to lose too much money when their child decides guitar is too hard.

What kind of music do you want to play, and what is the price range?

Also, is this just for practicing at your house? By yourself or with a band?

I like classic rock, once my band gets together (which is as soon as summer starts) I'll be playing rhythm and helping with vocals. So eventually I'll be getting a nicer guitar... probably an SG Special or a All-American Fender Strat (Have the paintjobs picked out on both of them ^_^ ) But I also would like to play some of the more modern rock things (Blink-182, MCR, 30 Seconds to Mars, AAR, Yellowcard, etc.) So yeah I'm willing to spend probably up to $100 on it.

Guitar or amp? I have the guitar right now - it's just to learn on. I already have my next guitar and my higher-end amp picked out.

All I need right now is a cheap practice amp so I can power learn and throw together a repertoire for my band.

      Ok I'll check it out.

Also, I need a cord and (obviously) I want the amp to have a power chord, even if it also can be battery powered.

For $100 or less, you won't get a great amp, especially if you're looking to use it for band practice or gigging.

      Here's some suggestions, though.

Vox Pathfinder - $120 - Low gain, with not very good higher gain. Can give some good classic rock sound. It's solid state and 15 watts, though, so it won't give too much noise, and won't be enough for even band practice.

      Orange Crush 10/15 - 10W is $90, 15W is $120 - Nice classic rock tone.

Stay away from Fender Frontmans, Marshall MGs, and unknowns.

I would suggest saving up for something better. At least a $300-400 amp, where you choices get a lot broader and better. You said that you're probably going to get either an SG Special which can run $800-$1000, or a Fender American Strat which goes from $1000-$1200. That's pretty unbalanced if you ask me. There isn't really much of a point to have a really nice guitar if you have a shit amp where you can barely hear it, and it sounds horrible.

I'd say that you should either save up more or get a little bit cheaper guitar and a little bit better amp.

      EDIT:

I now see the post above that says that you only need it for practicing. Then I'd suggest going with one of the ones above. Go to a Guitar Center or a similar place and test them out, and if you are just learning, ask some of the employees to play on them. Ask them to play various styles that you would like to learn and play (Don't rule something out just because it isn't your favorite. If you like rock now, but don't mind listening to jazz or blues, see what they have to say about that also.) and see what they think.

Thanks that site looks really good actually RockNRoller.

BTW how do you guys feel about Roland Microcube? I borrowed my friend's once, and it packed a lot of punch for a 5 inch speaker... I also liked the variety of effects it came with.

Edit: Ok this amp looks like an excellent value. What do you guys think?

Edit again: I found the same amp on sale so when it's all said and done, the total is just over $100. Unless somebody warns me that these amps are faulty or something I think this is what I'm going to go with - it might even be able to work in band practices.

Looks good to me. I don't really know anything about crate, but I'm sure you can check out some reviews, online. At face value, it looks pretty damn good for the price.
