      tomtom or Garmin?

I'm getting GPS tomorrow and I'm wondering if anyone has either of these two and how they like it? The Garmin nuvi 200 is $75 more than the tomtom, why is that? In terms of what they do they look the same. I don't need bells and whistles.

Well what do you plan on using them for?

Like, personal stuff once in a while, or nearly constant travel?

I'll probably use it mostly for personal trips. I usually take one every week that's in an area that I need a map for.

Do both speak? The video on the tomtom one doesn't show it speaking.

I've been looking too... leaning towards the Tomtoms since the Amazon reviews say good things about them.

Depends on the Tomtom I think.

Mine doesn't, but my Magellan GPS does. You should check those out too.

But for personal stuff you could get away with the Tomtom.

How does your alert you when you're nearing a turn? Does it just beep at you?

Wow, Magellans are a little too expensive for what I need it for

Yea, I think the one I use beeps...

I'm not sure though, I'll have to go look at it.

I think it just beeps, but it might say "left turn" or "right turn ahead", etc.

The Magellan, however, speaks everything. And has a nice little turn alert ring

I'm pretty sure my mom has a garmin and I know it speaks.

If I had one that spoke I would turn off the feature. Too distracting from my rockin' tunes.
