      OpenGL 3.0 Specs released

      http://www.khronos.org/news/press/re...enerations_of/

Notable features include: No Static Pipeline! New shading language, and Floating point depth buffer. Thank you Sun!

Also, they are releasing OpenCL, which is OpenGL that takes advantage of multicore processors, using one of the cores as an extra GPU.

      This looks good for gamers.

I'm reading the PDF specs right now, holy crap it's 500 pages.

you know, as an end user you won't see anything different
this is really only of interest to graphics developers

Thats not true, opencl is a huge difference, makes use of multi core processors

I've never seen any demonstration of OpenCL on Windows. It's up to the Windows community to support the new features, not Sun. Windows doesn't even fully support OpenGL 2.1. You'd be lucky to see OpenGL 3.0 for Windows, but it's highly doubtful that you'll see that new OpenCL for the multi cores any time soon.

On another note, is anyone using DirectX 10? I thought that a few games were released using it, but they all flopped so developers are sticking with DX 9.

Well, it's up to the graphics board makers, Nvidia & AMD
(and Intel and a few others as well, but for the most part it's Nvidia & AMD)

MS really has no say in Windows's OpenGL support
      I wrote about this before
      http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...15&postcount=2

Most games use DX9, with some using DX10 features if available

Shadowrun is, to date, the only game to be released "DX10 only"
and it sold so poorly, the game studio went bust

DirectX 10 fails because no platforms support it. Let's look at what supports what engine.

      DirectX 10
      Windows Vista

      DirectX 9
      Windows Vista
      Windows XP
      Xbox 360
      Xbox

      OpenGL
      Windows Vista (1.5)
      Windows XP (1.5)
      Xbox 360
      Xbox
      PS2
      PS3
      Wii
      Mac
      Linux

OpenGL 3.0 and OpenCL will make gaming better for much more gamers. I can't wait to start programming a dynamic pipeline.
