Thread: CallOfDuty4 - Making downloaded maps Playable?

Press ~ for the commandline, more commonly known as the console.

ninja-edit: Oh and press SHIFT+~ to enlarge the commandline so that you can scroll. If nothing appears when you write stuff in, you might be in the wrong end of the 'window' and you'll have to scroll to the bottom. This is done in the game-menu/ingame by the way.

okay now I have downloaded AWE4 1.3. I have placed it in the "Mods" folder in the Call of Duty4 root directory. Another tutorial told me to do that.

I have added to this root directory another folder called "usermaps" in which I have placed a folder of a Downloaded custom map with 3 files; 2 .ff files and 1 .iwd file.

So do I open the console in the game and enter the commands explained in the Tutorial to which I linked? I believe it said I should add this to the windows explorer browser.


basically I don't understand anything at all of what to do.

You should probably read some background information about hosting first.

It's as simple as this:

1) Download maps
2) Extract to the right folders. Should be decsribed in a README.txt file or something along those lines. If anything you can crosscheck files extensions with already existing files.
3) Host server, make sure you have admin rights.
4) Use the changemap commando. Just google for admin commands in CoD4.

Allright everything seems clear to me except step 3). I believe I have all the right files in all the right folders. I can google up CoD4 commands.

Just how do I host such a server? Will any website to which I can upload the custom map-files to do the Job? Or do I need a specific kind of games server for that?
