CallOfDuty4 - Making downloaded maps Playable?
So i've been playing Call of Duty 4 for quite some time now and wanted to download a new custom map from www.cod4maps.net. I downloaded 1 map,
but have no clue as to what to do next to make it playable online.
I found this:

However I don't understand much of how this is done.
I've gotten as far as creating a couple of new maps in the Call of Duty 4 Root Directory. Then the tutorial speaks of adding certain commands in the commandline and that's where I'm stuck. You can see where I got lost in that very Topic as I have replied in it under my common name: SKA. I've got Windows Vista which might also make the procedure different from the one described in the tutorial.
I'm a terrible noob when it comes to these kind of procedures.
Basically this whole process is a mystery to me so if someone here who has experience and know-how of getting downloaded custom CoD4 maps to work, from the point of just having downloaded a map all the way to getting it to work in Multyplayer online... Please help me out!

okay now I have downloaded AWE4 1.3. I have placed it in the "Mods" folder in the Call of Duty4 root directory. Another tutorial told me to do that.
I have added to this root directory another folder called "usermaps" in which I have placed a folder of a Downloaded custom map with 3 files; 2 .ff files and 1 .iwd file.
So do I open the console in the game and enter the commands explained in the Tutorial to which I linked? I believe it said I should add this to the windows explorer browser.

You should probably read some background information about hosting first.
It's as simple as this:
1) Download maps
2) Extract to the right folders. Should be decsribed in a README.txt file or something along those lines. If anything you can crosscheck files extensions with already existing files.
3) Host server, make sure you have admin rights.
4) Use the changemap commando. Just google for admin commands in CoD4.

Allright everything seems clear to me except step 3). I believe I have all the right files in all the right folders. I can google up CoD4 commands.
Just how do I host such a server? Will any website to which I can upload the custom map-files to do the Job? Or do I need a specific kind of games server for that?Luminous Spacious Dream Masters That Holographically Communicate
