      Getting an External Hard Drive

What kind should I get? I don't really want to buy anything over $100, but I might be able to loan the money from someone if it's a great deal.

I'd rather not get one that's clunky, if possible I'd like it to fit in my pocket. Not having a power chord is a must.

      Any recomendations?

You can save money by buying an internal hard drive and putting it in an external enclosure.

gets you an extra 250 GB for the same price.

I like the idea, but it's a little more expensive, and it's pretty big. I want something I can carry around with me without a problem.

Oh, you should have said you wanted something portable. Just go with a premade one then. I thought you wanted one just as an easy way to get an extra hard drive.

LaCIE makes some that are portable and rugged, in the 250-320GB range at that price, I think. Check NewEgg, of course. Be sure you read reviews carefully, on multiple sites. Amazon and NewEgg usually work. Last I checked, though, the small LaCIE ones that come with a rubber case were up in popularity and getting good reviews.

Sorry I can't remember the exact model; I had the product page on NewEgg bookmarked on my other computer. Next time I'm on it I'll post a few links.

This is what I have. Pretty good hard drive. 1 TB of memory. You'll never need anything else.

Hmm, guess I should have made it more obvious. Something without a power chord, please.
Am I stuck to flash drives, or are there any decent external hard drives that don't need a chord?

The only alternative to having an external hard drive without a power cord is by having an external hard drive that runs on a battery (which wouldn't be practical). If you're really against having an ex. hard drive without a power cord, I'd probably just use a flash drive.

Yeah, you can get flash drives pretty cheap, but they aren't as fast as a hard drive and are limited to 32 GB. So either way you go there's going to be a flaw or two.

Not necessarily. I have one that gets power through the USB. I don't know the name.

You're going to get about 32 Gigs with that attitude. Get what Jeff said, or find one that runs on your computer's power, which would decrease battery life (assuming a laptop) and force you to find a plug anyway.
