Why does it have to be open source? If you're doing professional work, you need a professional tool. Do you have a computer other than your Linux box that you can use? The software you want is called SoundBooth. It's part of CS4, but obviously it's OSX and Windows only. I doubt it will run on Wine.

It's kind of a combination of Audacity and iMovie's sound editor, although far more advanced than either one of them. It's got a high learning curve, but once you get used to it, it's very streamlined for those kind of work loads.
