      Question Mental commentary and SP?

I was just wondering if mentally commenting (as in thinking "okay, now i'm seeing weird flashes and it looks like i'm seeing a pirate ship") on the WILD experience (so far I've only got to vibrations, mild visual hallucinations and random mental visualizations) prevents your body from entering the acutal SP phase.

I'm really good at not moving my body (the itch signals disappear pretty quickly) but I'm starting to think it's my thoughts that are preventing the SP.

In my experience, yes, that's why the tutorials for WILDing put such an emphasis on passively watching as you sleep. Do you normally go to sleep thinking "ok, now I'm going to do this, then I'll lose consciousness, then I'll sleep"? No, if you keep thinking/narrating your brain will think your trying to stay up. imagine how useful that would be where you close your eyes to focus on something, and you think hard about it, and your asleep in seconds. We would all be dead by before 2000 BC.

Your brain is made to think if your consciously thinking, your trying to stay up, so don't think, don't narrate, just watch, it's okay to think "oh hey I can feel SP" but don't try to follow the whole process. Just watch like a movie, movies are passive and unthinking experiences, but still conscious experiences.

Remember, the idea is to fall asleep while you stay conscious, not to stay conscious until you fall asleep. Otherwise it would take forever.

Thanks for the tip. I guess I was just afraid I would lose consciousness otherwise.

I spend the first segment thinking/focusing about the feeling of a lucid dream, that way I don't have to worry about failing, because you'll get a DILD even if you lose consciousness. I used to do the same thing, and worried about losing consciousness, but now I figure I would rather accidentally fall into a dream, than stay up all night worrying about it.

      Worrying doesn't help.
