They are most likely delicious, jelly entities. Eating them should induce WILDs.
But really, I think it's just what your brain/eye sees when you go without sensory input for a bit of time. They could possibly be contributed to HH, if you were consciously experiencing N1 sleep, but you'd know best whether that was the case or not.
As for WILD use, it's generally better to have a reliable anchor to hold onto. If you think those images will persist through all stages of sleep into the transition, then it might be feasible, but something tells me you'd be better off with a cold environment, white noise, or some other environmental anchor.
