Is SP really necessary when WILDing?

It seems like I can never fall asleep after I get into SP. The discomfort keeps me awake.

I have had at least 2 experiences were I at least think I was close to WILDing without reaching anything close to SP before beginning to sleep. It seems like I have more luck when I skip SP altogether...

What are your thoughts on this? Could it be that for some people, reaching SP is counterproductive for WILDs? Does anyone here WILD without worrying about SP, or has anyone heard of it being done?

I have gotten the intense auditory and other hallucinations that usually accompany SP (identified by the description from others) while trying to WILD not in SP, while I've never experienced anything really other then paralysis while in SP...

Any advice would be appreciated greatly!

I've had countless WILDs and I have yet to experience SP. Must depend on the person.

Whenever I WILD, I go from everything being very quiet and still, to a brilliant explosion of colors that whirls in my vision before developing into a dream scene. I don't experience SP in the traditional sense I guess.

      Red face Rarely on purpose.....

I do sometimes go from the SP state where I cant move anything or control my body and then go into a WILD and then a LD but it is rarely within my control. It just seems to happen by accident and since so much energy is taken away from my body when this happens Im usually not very excited about it. I usually have to break out of it and stop it which sometimes still will not work, its like being trapped.

I usually just close my eyes and try to imagine a specific scene, then suddenly I can see or feel a single thing or spot in the dream and by focusing on it I am drawn into the LD.

I really like to just turn lucid when im already in a dream, I find that its a lot easier to control then trying to go straight into one, plus it last longer for me. I had a wonderful one the other week when I was outside on a hill and I just started to walk around through the woods, its always a treat to look around and see what your mind creates!

Wow this is interesting, i thought everyone used SP to get to LD. For me SP is absolutely neccesary to get me into a LD. As soon as i hear the white noise (like when you turn your tv on) start to intensify then i just raise up and i am in the dream. I really dont get where the discomfort comes from, SP is not a bad thing, and without it the only way i can see getting into a LD is by DILD, and that shit is harder for me because i wont know my success rate, but with SP its pretty much a success from the get go.

Ah wow... and all that time I wasted laying there in SP, uncomfortable, and waiting for something to happen other than the disability to move...

Thanks a lot guys! I think I'm definitely one of those people that would be better at simply going into a wild without worrying about SP first, now that I know that those people even exist...

I think I'm now going to have a lot more success...

Dude when you get in SP if you would just raise up and open your eyes, i can almost (note almost) guarantee that you will be in a dream. Your wasting too much time in SP. The SP is supposed to be your gateway. Im not a big lucid dreamer but this is how it works for me, i think if you try it, it could give you results.

I've tried opening my eyes plenty of times, and nothing happened. I even tried opening my eyes, getting myself out of SP, and doing a reality check. Really, nothing.

It's weird, SP just straight up wakes me up! When I wake up in SP, it's (almost?)impossible for me to go back to sleep until I get myself out and after that it's simple. I have tried to go back to sleep after waking up in SP for a very long time, and it just didn't work. The discomfort of it while even semi conscious brings me to and keeps me in full consciousness, it seems no matter what. I could probably force myself to stay awake all night simply by putting myself in SP while awake and never getting out of it...

No SP ever while WILDing here either. Just HI, but twice I just went from laying down in bed to false awakening into a fully lucid dream.
Willing to talk about/listen to anything you have to say.
