      SP time?

I have just started trying to use WILD but since i cant recognize a SP can i ask what is the average
time it takes for a beginner WILDer to enter SP? I have tried a few techniques but i always quit.

      1. I don't know if I'm in SP
      2. I don't know how long i should be laying there thinking about nothing.

It seems like there is barely any detail on what SP feels like even though your practically need to know
everything about it. I want to know what other people feel in SP? A list of the different experiences in
SP's might help new WILD users when they are trying to get SP. I hear that some people barely experience SP while others do.

I've asked a few people this. I've been told that you "just know" when you hit SP. I haven't gotten to SP myself, but I'm convinced it would be pretty obvious.

Ok I'm just going to ask a few more questions but i still would like some more answers to the first one.

Does breathing VERY deeply effect SP? As in that annoying feeling that my lungs do not have enough air when I'm normally breathing if i fill my lungs as much as possible with air will that mess up my SP? Also light comes through the cracks on of the door to my moms bedroom can that deter a WILD?

I doubt that the way you breathe will effect how you get into SP, given that you are actually able to move and still enter SP. And a little bit of light shouldn't deter it. If anything, it should help.

i can get into sp but not past it. for me it takes about 30 -40 minutes to get into sp and maybe and hour untill im really knocked out. but ive never gotten past that. Ive stayed in sp for about 2 hours without slipping into a dream.

      That's impossible o.o

SP lasts for a few minutes at the most.

Yes, you will definitely "just know" when you get into SP. For me, I suddenly just start vibrating, I hear crazy noises, I start to float for a second, and seconds later I can crawl out of my body.

If you are in SP for a long time, I would suggest trying to move and hopefully you will start moving your dream body

Is it possible to try to move in SP and actually move your real body? I always thought that being unable to move was an essential part of sleep paralysis. I've had lots of experiences like hearing roaring sounds and have really heavy limbs, but when I was able to move out of it (or it just ended by itself) I thought, that I only got the beginnings of SP and not the real thing.

Because there was this one time when I was trying to WILD, when I suddenly noticed a window in my bedroom that I've never seen before (a hypnagogic hallucination?) and when I wanted to roll over I couldn't move. Then there was an extremely loud roaring sound and I was sliding out of my bed sideways and ended up in a very vibrant lucid dream.

So, maybe when you're able to move out of SP it's just deep relaxation and not the real SP yet? Is there anybody experienced out there who would like to comment?

Is that true? SP only lasts for a minute?

Maybe what I thought sp was isnt actually sp.

for me my body completely freezes up and I cant move a thing. THe way I notice that Im really in what I thought sp was was the fact that my jaw completely locks up and I cannot move it. I can still swallow but I cannot move my teeth at all. (my jaw is usually clenched pretty tight which is a bit uncomfortable) I cant move my legs or my arms, hands, or fingers. I can still breeze and feel my chest moving and can still swallow. but no fingers toes and jaw.

Last time i tried this i was like this for over an hour. I thought this was SP but if it only lasts a minute maybe I was only almost in sp.
what do people think about this issue. is sp only a minute long thing?

No that person didnt know what they was talking about. Sleep Paralysis lasts for as long as you are dreaming, which could be as long as an hour or something. Thats why we enter sp so that we cant act out our dreams.

That makes sense to me. It would be bad if we acted out everything that we dream. However, this is what the wikipedia says with regard to sleep paralysis:

"The paralysis can last from several seconds to several minutes after which the individual may experience panic symptoms and the realization that the distorted perceptions were false."

I just wonder - is this simply a wrong statement? Or is there a difference between REM atonia and SP? My experiences of SP never lasted long, a few minutes at the most. After that, I either slipped into a lucid dream or the paralysis ended.

btw, it also says that both SP and hallucinations are more likely when you lie with your face upwards. I've no idea if this is true, but I'll give it a try tonight

The reason one would think it only lasts a few minutes is because when you fall asleep, you dont feel SP anymore lol. Sounds to me like they assumed that it went away when in reality it doesnt. It stays with you until you wake up. Well sometimes even when you wakeup it still wont go away, i remember i have had to fight it when i wake up.

yea thats what i was gonna say because your asleep, you think that your not paralyzed anymore even though you really are.

Yes, but you don't stay conscious in SP for more than a few minutes. You either slip into a dream, lucid or otherwise, or wake up.

I think the Wikipedia article is probably talking about waking up in SP. That usually only lasts for a few minutes before the body realizes, "Hey, the brain is awake!" And snaps out of it.

As for what SP feels like for me... I've had it a few times. I only got mild noises and images once, though. Mostly I just suddenly feel like I'm sinking down and my body weighs a ton. My breathing (which I try to ignore) ends up short and shallow--almost like I should be suffocating, but I'm not. Never during the process do I breathe deeply. I've experienced shortness of breath, but I try to keep my breathing light and steady, and I usually move past it. I think it's my body trying to see if I'm awake.

When in SP, or right before, I always get some form of HI (mostly white light) and feel forces pulling or pushing my body places. It differs from person to person.

I personally relish every chance I get to enter SP! It's an amazing, if not slightly creepy and unnerving, feeling, to be still fully aware but getting dream-like hallucinations.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

No, don't think about nothing, imagine a dream scene, where you want to be in your dream!

Also when I'm entering SP I usually take deep breaths, and with each breath I'm imagining a water bed like I'm on a see being moved by waves.

That stuff really helped me, hope it helps for you too!

Vibrations over my body mean that I'm just pre-SP.

A strong tactile sensation/falling AND/OR sound distorting slowly

An example for sound: I passively listen to my breathing, and when I'm heading into SP I can hear the sound of my breathing fading away with a hollow...echo-ing kind of effect and then this is usually followed instantly by ringing in my ears.

If you are new to inducing SP, most likely it will be very obvious when it hits you, almost startlingly obvious. You will have a certain feeling about a minute before it hits you, it is hard to confuse it with anything else because it is so distinct. As you become a pro at inducing it, you will gradually notice it less.

Last night when I was attempting to induce SP, I heard some guttural sound and then tapping noises like it was on my window. I got a little startled and it got feint but then when it started to come back.. My dad knocked on my door. (Which freaked me out) haha. Was that SP? I'm new to Lucid Dreaming..

Ok last night i had my second lucid dream and i noticed something. The whole time i felt some kind of connection to my RL body. It continued to pull me out of my dream. Is this normal? How could i learn to get rid of this feeling? A reality check? Making my dream more stable? Concentrating?

Also my dream was a DILD so I'm not sure if this goes here. But when i woke up and fell asleep i seem to be able to become lucid easier than later in dreams. Like i fall asleep thinking so much i am able to just say I'm dreaming even if there's no reason.

When i use to get sp i literally felt it, it was like some kind of presence covering my body, but in reality, it was just my blanket.

I once was in SP, and I felt nothing. I mean, I heard about how others trying to WILD getting awesome floating or vibrations, weird noises, footsteps, sounds, etc. But I didn't get any of that the first time. In fact, the only way I knew I had SP was because I was in a dream out of no where and was like 'WTF? Wasn't I just awake a moment ago?'

Funny that, I was trying to perform a MILD, but accidentally did a WILD instead.

Only time I ever hallucinated was when I woke up and I was in SP, twice I did this. And the hallucinations where absolutely terrifying.

Chances are if you're saying you were in sp for hours, or your limbs felt "heavy" you probably weren't in sp.
Sp is noticeable straight away, almost always feels like a huge pressure on your whole body as if some spiritual force is holding you down. Then sometimes you start falling through your bed/floating, and get the vibrations and roars, and other hallucinations.

Lying in the same position for ages always makes you limbs heavy, but this is not sleep paralysis. One of the biggest things in my learning to WILD was to keep the lowest level of conscious thought that I could. If I concentrated on anything or thought about it too hard, I wouldn't hit sp for ages. Maybe that's why some of you have been lying there for ages?

That is kind of confusing. I need to say conscious but i need to be less conscious? I tried again last night and i still totally failed. How long does it take to get into SP for a beginner on average? If i lay there for a half hour and then move i wanna know how close or far away i was. Ahh ill probably get my first WILD on accident while doing something else.
