I want to write a book based on some of the supposed non-fiction new age crap that i love to read so often.
the story itself is fictional. But it is based on some idea's from the New Age crap i read. here's the introduction. Tell me what you think? Would you read a story like this? even if you get ideas for charactes or anything it would be a help.

enjoy!

CHRONICLES OF POWER

Stories from the Sorcerer's World

Introduction: The Rule of the Raven

Tens of Thousands of years ago, During the dawn of man,
A man just like any other man stumbled apon a rule of power.
The rule Stated that he would live forever. He was given the Rule by the great Raven - The god of the cosmos.
the raven Told him that if he gathered men and women into the Rule and succesfully combined their powers that they would live forever in an other realm of existence.

the Raven then guided the man into the intricacies of sorcery.
He learned to travel through the wall of mist to meet with other entities The Shawguay.
The Shawguay gave gifts of power. Power that He could use in the daily world.
He also learned how to meet with them in Dreaming, another Gateway to other realms.

The man then gathered and intsructed groups of four men, and for women.
each pair resembled the four directions of power. After each group mastered their arts in sorcery
each pair was to begin instructing A group of new sorcerers Modeled after their own Party.
Then and only then was the master Sorcerer and his party able to leave the world.
Leaving Their apprentices to forget most of what they learned, only to remember their teachings over years by acts of sorcery.

The Great sorcerer and his party fell into a deadly trap: The Shawguay also offered eternal life in their realm.
And since the Sorcerers were obsessed with the use of their powers they became Allies with the Shawguay.
Only they didn't know That they were to be food for the Shawguay.
When it came for the first group to leave the world. They cast the Spell of "No Memory" on their apprentices.
They left into the wall of mist to live with their Allies.

the Shawguay gave the sorcerers a fate worse than death: their life force was ever so slowly extracted from their bodies.
Meanwhile catering to the harsh demands of the Shawguay. Sometimes it was a thousand years before A sorcerers death.

Over the years. Rule of Sorcerers spread accross the globe. All over people were using thier powers for Wealth.
they performed acts beyond comprehension to the onlooker, only later to become drunk and evil with power. And then only to suffer to their dreadful fate.

Three thousand years later, a party of sorcerers Rediscovered the Rule.
The Raven showed them in visions what the Shawguay was actually doing. This particular Party knew they wouldn't be able to sway the other sorcerers back to the Raven so easily.
The knew that trying to persuade them would lead to war. A war they could never win. For hundreds of years, this new group of sorcerers lived in seclusion.
They discovered ways not to succumb to the Shaguay. and since their only source of power came from the Shawguay they had to learn to be ruthless and swift in their Dealings.
the New Sorcerers then began gathering apprentices and teaching them the True way to do sorcery.
since they were not safe travelling to villages, where the Evil sorcerers lived, they projected Phantasmical doubles of themselves to find new apprentices.

After a time, they finally waged war on the Old sorcerers. It was the greatest battle on you could ever imagine! in fact, you could not comprehend what actually took place.
No one ever witnessed it. the War took place in their dreams.
The New Sorcerers went into their dreaming and sent dream helpers (the helpers that served as a bridge betwen mankind's and the Shawguays realm)
to take every Old sorcerer to their final Fate.

so began the new age! Our story begins in present day.....

Are you actually writing a full, proper book that you will actually publish when it is finished, or are you just writing something short for a bit of fun? Either way, it sounds interesting, I'd like to read it when it's finished.

Adopted Megabenman although he disappeared a while ago.

It does sound interesting.. but it seems much more Native American based than "New Age," except for the sorcerers. The myth base sounds more Native American though. You also put me off by repeatedly referring to "new age crap." I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or what, but it sounds disrespectful of what you're trying to emulate either way.

There's a great series that has a lot of its base set in Scotland and "New Age" types of magick. It's called the Witches of Eileannan and it's an awesome series.

I think you could actually turn this story of yours into a series of books. I would suggest creating a particular family or character(s) that your books can follow throughout. Without a focal point, you'll have trouble keeping people's attention.

Good luck!

Thanks for the comments. i'm thinking of starting off with a main character who becomes an apprentice.
He goes on many adventures while learning.of course there may be a love story. maybe i will throw in the sorcerers of the past (some who found away and escaped their captors. and they seek revenge&#33.
I might do it for fun. i probly won't send it to a publisher since my intention is to rip off the new age books. it's more like a fan fiction i guess.

I'll write a few chapters and post them later!

edit - i must add that some Native americans were reffered to as Sorcerers. but more so The Mexican indians. All over mexico you hear of Brujos, shamans who can shape shift into animals, and all sorts of things. in fact there is plenty of New Age literature that stems from Mexican and American Indians.

when i was younger ilived in a town surrounded by Reserves. I'm white but i had many native friends. During my psychodelic curiosity phase i participated in many of their rituals. I've had visions and such, but i also have seen what people may refer to as sorcery.

one story comes to mind:

I had some friends in a band i palyed with, who had once brought a medicine woman over from the longhouse. She went about saging their apartment and even claimed to see negative energies left in their guitar fretboards Smile

I even felt a slight shift when i walked into their apartment when she was done. However, there was a negative effect: My friend was having a casual fling with a Woman down a few doors. After the cleansing she would not walk into his apartment. She would try but get all shaky and ill at ease at even the sight of his door.

I shrugged it off as a bit off nonsense... Until The Woman who Clensed his apt. Got sexually involved with my friend - Which ended in disaster, Since he was a recovering speed addict. another thing that bothered my friend was that she would appear to him in very vivid dreams on mountain tops. anyway after the whole ordeal was done. He Went back to Dope! sad story...
