      The "Movie Theatre Affect"

Okay, this is an interesting thing which happened to me last night. It was incredible, I will explain it now:

The reason I call this the "Movie Theatre Effect" is because it's as if you snuck into a movie theatre, but your just outside the door so you can't see the movie, you can only hear it. I shall explain this further...

I was going to bed, and I felt good and TIRED. I lay down and closed my eyes. I said to myself
that I would be lucid and remember my dream, and that I would remember to do and RC (I didn't do any of this ). I started falling asleep and then something incredible happened! The Movie Theatre Effect! I was in between sleep and consiousness! I heard the voices from my dream in my ears! The people who were talking were my friend matt, my sis, a man, and a woman. I only heard parts of what they were saying, because I was struggling to keep consiousness while I fell asleep, and if I tried too hard, I would regain almost full consiousness. The neat thing is I remember only part of the dream I had that night, and both my sister and my friend matt were in it!

This is very interesting in my opinion. I find it wonderful that we have the mental power to shift between the "Dream world" and the "Real world"! This is going to help many people achieve lucidity, if used in the right way. I would like to tell you that it is INCREDIBLY difficult to control the shifting! I have only done this once, and it was not on purpose, so do not try to hard when you attempt it.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Any comments ?

Hey there, I know exactly what you are talking about. In fact you were most likely experiencing hypnogogic sounds before you entered your dream. This is very common as you are awake while going into a dream. It sounds like you almost had a WILD, or wake induced lucid dream.

During a WILD you experience everything consciously that your body and mind typically go through, unconsciously, while you fall asleep. Things such as sleep paralysis, and hynogogic imagery and sounds. If you were able to retain your consciousness through this "movie theatre effect" it should have taken you into a lucid dream...but from the sounds of it it seems that you probably lost consciousness before the dream it and therefore the dream you entered was not a lucid one.

I find reciting song lyrics in my head, or even singing a song, or reciting a prayer if you are religious is enough to keep me conscious as I transition from hypnogogia into my lucid dream. It is definitely a fine line between being too conscious and waking up and being too unconcious and falling asleep. It will take some practice to master.

I suggest you try to induce a WILD...after 5 hours of sleep, or in the early morning...or during a nap early in the day. It's pretty hard to have them at night b/c your body just wants to go to sleep and is in a different mind set.

Also, you will hear ALOT of strange things during that hypnogogic state. There are several threads about HS, or hypnogogic sounds that I suggest you read up about. Do a quick search of the forum and type in HS, or hypnogogic sounds. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

LOL I thought that at first too...but I think he wasn't being sarcastic. At least I hope not. I hate how things can be misconstrued while talking online.

Yeah guys, hes right. I wasn't being sarcastic. I tried to go with the vibrations last night but my family would not shut up! If I tell them to be quiet they go quiet, but then they get noisy again. If I tell them a second time they say I'm cranky... Man it's pi$$ing me off. Anyway. I had some more vibrations last night, but I'm not sure if I just made it up... I'll ask for your opinion.

I was just getting into sleep and I pictured this guy walking through a school. First the school looked like it was normal, but then I changed it to futuristic (curving glass walls, metal and glass desks, stuff like that). I heard (now this is what I want to know) a piano playing in the background, and my mind was following this guy like a movie camera.

Right after that I was disturbed by my family !!

      So, my question is:
Was the piano music a vibration?

      Thanks for your help.

P.S. I had another non-lucid dream last night. It was winter and I was at my friends house. I ran outside and went behind a snow wall (I could not feel the cold, and I was not wearing snow stuff... I should have taken that as a sign that I was dreaming). I stuck my feet in the hole (made out of snow) in the ground, and I saw a squirrel in the hole. I picked him up (this is when I noticed that i was wearing gloves). I knew he would bite me and he did. I put him back in the hole and he started biting and scratching at my feet. I said "You little bast@rd!" and sturggled to pull my feet out. Finally I freed (that even a word?) my feet. That is as far as I can remember ........

The piano music was most likely part of HI.

I recommend ductape for your family next time you need to sleep. Other then that, maybe some music or a fan would help.. I find ambient noise like a fan easy to focus in on and slip into a WILD. I also find the wind it makes a pain in the ass to staying asleep, so i lock the fan in one position so it blows not as me, but across the foot of the bed, its enough to get the air moving in the room, but not enough to piss me off or freeze me.
      Just keep moving…
