I arrive at the location where I am scheduled to set up sound for an electronic music festival. There is a building on the right side and a field on the left side of the lane. There are a couple of RVs and several tents in the field. The building is quite large and it has several large roll-up doors. I stop my truck and trailer full of sound equipment in front of the building, then walk inside to find out where they would like me to park. I walk inside to see that there are several people already working on setting up lights and decorations for the stage.

I walk around the back of the stage and find the guy who hired me to set up and operate sound. He gives me a strange look, then says, “As it ends up, we're not going to use your sound system tonight. We will hold off and set yours up tomorrow.” I look at him and say, “That sucks.” He says, “I know, but I told this other guy he could have one day.” I ask, “Anyway, which door should I open so that I can pull my trailer in?” He points to the second door and says, “Pull it in along that side wall so you can plug your shore power directly into the main panel.”

I walk over to the door find the control box which has buttons labeled 'up', 'down', and 'stop'. I press the 'up' button and the door slowly raises, letting out some terrible squeaks on the way up. Once the door raises far enough, I press the 'stop' button and walk back to my truck. I drive inside and drop the trailer right next to the circuit panel, then park the truck outside. I pull out my shore power cable and find that the receptacle of a foreign type that my plug will not mate with. I drop the end of the cable and grumble to myself, “The stupid fucking outlet is never right. I'll fucking hot-wire it.”

I walk back toward the stage when as start a sound check. The highs are muddy and there is hardly any bass. There are a whole bunch of home-stereo type speakers scattered around everywhere. As I walk by, I see that one of them is being driven to its maximum cone excursion, but is hardly putting out any sound. The speaker cone looks like it is trying to jump out of the box.

I walk to the backstage area again and see that the guys are moving a bunch of tables from a back room. I look for a moment, then walk back to my trailer and go inside. The interior lights are on, so I turn them off and lay down on the couch and fall asleep. I suddenly wake up to a loud pop sound.
    2. Electronic Music Festival / New Drug: USB / Broken Turntable / Fight

(Note: When I came home from work today, I was quite tired. After getting laundry started, I laid down a took a nap at around 7:00pm. I woke up nearly 3 hours later, and wrote this down.)

I am at a large multi-stage outdoor electronic music festival. I hook up my stage and power it up, then do a sound check. The first DJ comes on and starts playing, and then I walk off to check out the other stages. I walk past another stage area that is still setting up, and find a couple of friends. I stop and bullshit with them for a bit, then I hear music start in another area. I walk over and there is a small sound system sitting on the tailgate of a truck. Unexcited, I walk off again. As I walk, I find some guys talking about all of the drugs they have for sale. One guy tells me about this brand new drug called USB. I am skeptical, but I buy a pill from him. I don't take it, but rather just stick it in my pocket for later.

I walk down along a fence line and see some electrical cabling that looks like it was left over from another gig. There is a transformer laying on the ground that looks like someone tried to set on fire. It's covered in ashes and is halfway stuck into the ground. Just as I am looking at it, a couple of people walk by and start chatting with me about when the next stage is going to turn on. I walk with them back to an empty stage area and find my brother spinning a record on a single turntable. Just as we're starting to catch up, the stage next to us turns on their sound system and does a sound check. My brother takes the record and puts it back in his case.

One of the guys that was walking with me comes up and points at the record player, asking, “What is this round disk thingy? What is this? Huh?” He grabs the tone arm and grinds it back and forth into the platen, then twists and bends it all around. He pushes the turn table off the stage, knocking it onto the ground. I stand up, ready for a fight and say, “What the fuck did you do that for?” He backs up a bit, then raises his fists and comes toward me. I put one leg up on the stage, then the other. He lunges at me and I grab him and wrestle him to the ground. As I pound on him, he says, “OK, I'm sorry. I'll buy you a new turn table.” I let him up and he starts babbling about some random bullshit. I remind him that he just broke my turn table, and he walks back over and looks at it. I pick it up and see that the case is broken, the tone arm is all bent up, and the power cord has been severed. He says, “I'll take it over here and get it fixed.” He picks it up and walks off.

The stage next to us puts on the first DJ. I look over to see that they have a huge line of subwoofers on the front of the stage and a few main PA speakers on risers, just off the stage ends. I walk over to hear the sound, and notice that there is hardly any bass at all. I walk along the row of subs and then through the space behind the mains. There is a security guy sitting on the stage who looks at me while I walk past. As I come out from behind the speakers, there are two more that are looking at me funny. One of the guys says to me, “What, do you think this is some kind of a dream or something? You can't just walk around all over the place like that.” I reply, “Sure I can, silly. This is just a dream. I can do whatever I want.” He looks at me with a puzzled look, the walks away.

I walk back toward my stage, deciding to stop in and check out everything inside my utility tent. I open the tent and see several boxes stacked in the corner and all of the packing material that has spilled out of one which fell over. I go in the tent and stuff all the bubble wrap back into the box and close it. I put the box on the pile, then exit the tent. I ask my brother, “Have you seen my camera?” He replies, “I think it's still in your truck.” I walk toward my truck and wake up.

When I wake up, I realize what just happened. , followed by
