      Hot Bath Nausea

      Anyone ever get this?

I sometimes feel sick after a warm bath but recently something weird happened.
I was lying down in a hot bath (I mean really hot, so hot it almost feels cold) for about 20minutes, then I stood up and got that "Oh I stood up too quick" feeling. But it didn't go away, then my vision went all tunnel-y, I couldn't hear well, my balance was all out of wack and then..I threw up. :X

It was a cool feeling before the throwing up, but strange all the same. Any ideas? Was it just the heat and then the standing up too quick?

My blood pressure and all that are fine. I have to get a full medical done every year for my job so I know I have no obvious problems.

Your blood pressure may be fine - overall - but the heat does slow (or is it speed up?) your heart rate. It also dehydrates you, both of which can cause you to feel dizzy or even blackout. Standing up probably just enhanced the effect. I'm no expert or anything, though. I do know that people who take certain drugs that affect the heart are in much greater danger of dying, if they are in a sauna or hot tub or something, for an extended period of time.

In a hopefully unrelated note, my ex got dizzy in the shower and fainted one day. Came to find out she had a tumor on her heart, which had tendrils wrapping around her windpipe and almost suffocated her to death. It had been growing for over 20 years, and she just happened to find out that day, when it restricted her breathing and knocked her out.

So yeah...I hope it's the first thing...

A respectful 'LMAO' from me, you cheery santa you

But I'll sleep soundly tonight; along with the medical I also got my heart checked with ECG's and..I forget the name but its basically an ultrasound for your heart, so you can see the in's and out's of it, and as they say, s'all good.

Strange effect though. I always try to enjoy the cool parts of these events, doing my best to stay as conscious as possible for these almost 'OBE'-like experiences, not worth repeating on purpose - unfortunately.

I've never been gassed but i've always wondered if I would be able to stay conscious, not in a body sense but at least in a lucid dreamy/semi dreamy state sense, with practice.

OMG! Thats EXACTLY the same thing that happend to me today! I took a hot bath and then after i stood up, i got a head ache amd i felt sick. Then when i finished my bath, i got out of the bathroom and then i couldnt see probably and i completely freeked out. I sat down on the stairs and waited till i could see and till the head ache went. I could see but the head ache stayed so i called for my dad and he said i was pale. The i threw up... He said it was beacause the water in the bath was waaaaay to hot. :/

I have this same thing happen to me sometimes, but I've never thrown up. What I think happens, based upon my knowledge of anatomy, is that the hot water dilates your blood vessels (vasodilation) which then makes your blood pressure drop. So standing up when combined with the low blood pressure can make the blood drain from your brain pretty quickly (Usually, our blood vessels constrict and our heart starts to beat faster when we stand up so that the blood pressure doesn't go down too quickly and our brains can keep getting oxygen). This can cause you to get dizzy, throw up, pass out. Sometimes, this can be a red flag of a serious illness involving the thyroid gland, the heart, the brain. But it is more often just caused by taking some kind of drug that also dilates your blood vessels (liquor, nicotine, high blood pressure medication), dehydration, or recently eating.

IEatYourCookies - that sounds like you were not getting enough oxygen to your brain. It usually hurts a shitload when the brain starts to regain bloodflow and reoxygenate (migraines). But yea, you don't want your bath water to get too hot or too cold because it can cause some pretty serious issues with blood flow and stuff.
