Loud noises when falling asleep/going into lucidity

      Hey there,
I know there is a name for it, but cannot find it anymore.

There is this state where you are going into dreamland, sort of, and if you are aware you will go through this phase of odd noises and loud sounds.
      What is this called?

      Thanks in advance!

      Hey Julia,

The term you're looking for is Hypnagogic Hallucinations (HH). It's not limited only to auditory hallucinations (loud noises), but also visual (seeing little "dreamlets") and tactile (feeling heavy or feeling like you're spinning) hallucinations. These hallucinations are perfectly safe, and are usually noticed when attempting a WILD - though keep in mind that they do not always occur, and it's very well possible to fully transition into a dream without noticing any HH.

You can read more about them here: HH Hypnagogic Hallucinations - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Like spellbee2 said, this state is known as the hypnagogic state. One may or may not experience this phase and may or may not experience sounds if they do experience it.

There is also Exploding Head Syndrome where one hears what sounds like a loud explosion coming from their head while they are falling asleep. This is also not dangerous.
