I just feel like sharing this experience I have made over the past few weeks.
I planned to try polyphasic sleeping for a long time now but sticking to one of the well-known schedules like everyman or even dymaxion/uberman just wouldn't work for me. So when monophasic sleeping finally managed to upset me enough to try polyphasic sleeping anyway I gave in to my instincts on deciding how to sleep, instead of setting up any schedule beforehand. Those instincts were telling me to just sleep for 1,5 to 2,5 hours every time I would feel tired. Effectively I slept 3-4 times like that a day, and the more I got used to it the less sleep I did need, not to mention I kept the flexibility. I could even keep all the sleep phases in one half of the day without any trouble. For myself I started to call this schedule "Erratic Sleeping". Given that otherwise I sleep quite a lot each day (10h+) and that with that schedule I managed to get down to about 6-7h after getting used to it that was a significant improvement giving me some extra hours each day. I even felt generally better. My dreams kept about the same quality and quantity.

Strange is however how fast I got used to this, I was forced back into monophasic sleeping for about 2 weeks now and actually I feel like I'm completely new to monophasic sleeping. After such a short time of "Erratic Sleeping" it feels absolutely natural to me, like it's been there my whole life. And today I'm resuming that schedule.

This is also a small encouragement for anyone thinking about polyphasic sleeping, and a hint on the fact that the well-known schedules aren't the only possible ones.
