Thread: Photography Task 12/08 - 1/09: The sky

JShockley asked me to post this, since he was unable to himself (low post count).



Mind you, this is probably an old photo. As I've said before in these threads, the purpose is to go out and take new pictures. I will let this one go though, since it's a new member, and it's a fine picture, disregarding the watermark.

Do pictures of the night sky count?

Of course. Everything goes! Sun sets, clouds, stars, as long as the focus of your photo is the sky, or the sky complementing the rest of a photo in a special way.

Perseids tonight, shoo clouds shoo.

I saw a few last night. I appreciate the announcement Spartiate!

Tonight I'm going to set up my camera on a tripod and go for some Time Lapses.

Can I save your cloud image for reference for when I am painting? Pictures like this are really hard to come by! It looks simply mesmerizing.

Absolutely. I've also been working a little on the photo, here's a better version with less noise and less exaggerated colours

This is about a week old, I know, and taken with a crappy mobile camera... But I'm gonna post it anyhow. I think it's a really cool picture.

I suppose pictures taken within this month will pass, since the tasks are going to be monthly, but by all means, go out and snap some more pictures. Clouds are really pretty around this time, because of the many cumulus formations.

That's a great picture. The still lake plays in very nicely. Also great, considering that it's taken with a mobile camera. Perhaps a little underexposed

Snapped this because the sky looked uber cool, didn't pay attention to much else.

Took this about a week ago when the sky turned a sepia color. It was lightening and thundering out, yet the sky was yellow and orange and green(ok so my friend said there was no green, but I'm colorblind so...) and blue and purple like a sunset. I love when that happens!
So this is just one small part of the sky I focused in on.
I couldn't get my camera to capture it properly, so it turned out a bit darker than it really is.

For some reason I doubt that the sky had an orange color set to screen, with a dark-light orange gradient map set to 75% opacity

Great photo ElsiaStar. It's a little orange, but the clouds are beautiful. What going on in the bottom of the photo? Kind of looks like ground or sea.

Is this supposed to sound smart? The picture in the OP has undergone heavy post processing as well.

I did not change anything about this picture except the size, to fit it on here. My camera just took it that way.. like I said, the sky wasn't as dark, but it looked similar to the picture.

It's still clouds, it just looks weird

I'm not saying a little post processing is horrible. But that cant possibly be an original, unless it was a faux Infrared photo then colors where inversed.

You underestimate the sky. I took this one a few years ago near sunset with a crappy point and shoot. It's exactly how it looked in real life.

yea it can look like that. It's rare but it does happen once in awhile, and it's beautiful

And sometimes the sun can make the ground amazingly cool as well as making an orange orange sky.


The color is exactly right. But sorry about the blurry off-topic photo. Just saying that sometimes nature can be amazing.

Maybe try cutting out a little more of the dark stuff in the photo.

Looks great. Not sure what kind of planes you are flying in though. Most of the time the sun is above the clouds, not below.
