      Xaq's Masks

Okay so, I'm not finished yet but its been a couple months since I started my latest mask and I'm so close I can feel the end is near so I thought I'd show it off to give myself a little boost to the finish.

For those who didn't see it, my first mask project is here.

Without further ado, my new mask Sculpt.

I'll do the rest in links so I don't flood you with images.

Holy shit Xaqaria . Being impressed is an enormous understatement. What is the substance you work with in molding these masks?

That is really damn cool. My mom does ceramic stuff, so I have an idea how something that big and well done would take much time, and must have been very difficult. You're a true artist with vision.

Guy is a little too bland I think. Most people would assume it was the noun, not the name.

      Sid.

      Sid.....or Cornelius.

      One of the two.

Anyway, excellent work, once again, Xaq.

Are these masks for people to buy in a store, or is this a mask they use in like a television/movie?

Maybe I should explain the concept of the mask...

Basically the idea is that it is a mask or some other sort of facade worn by an extra-terrestrial/ extra-dimensional being trying to blend in on earth by mimicking common visual themes on this planet, but is doing a piss poor job of it since it is unfamiliar with our particular brand of reality.

For instance, this thing knows that showing the teeth is a sign of jovialness, so the bigger the better, right? Judging from the visual feed of our radio signal (tv), large rounded sparkly (the sparkle comes later with the paint) eyes are cute and disarming, right? Humans are the dominant species, but far from the only one, so might as well throw some other features in there so as to be able to blend in with any species, right?

Basically its supposed to be a mash up of everything earthly. The visual effect I was trying to get was that it look different from almost any angle you could view it from, and that it might even be like a frozen snapshot of a twisting transformation. See why the name isn't easy to come by?

Edit: Also, some of the features were meant to betray the shape of whatever is underneath the mask. Even I'm not entirely sure what that is.

Thats incredible! Your first one was awesome, but this one really blows it away.

Are you set up to make multiple masks from each mold?

I love the history behind this one, that's really something. Do you always make a background and personality for your sculptures? I'm impressed.

I don't always have a whole background, but there is usually a clearly defined concept behind most of my work.

That's nuts, and very well done so far. Are you currently working as a concept artist for anyone in particular?

The reason why I took so strongly to mask making was because it allows me to create real visuals of parts of my personality that human facial expressions just don't allow. That picture you're talking about could probably be described as my human version of this thing, or the other way around.
