"Old cameras were not built to produce photos like these on purpose. These effects are defects from bad cameras, lenses, film and development process. "
Exactly why I love it. I find a certain charm and beauty in the (edit: simulated) chaos of these 'defects'. Never knowing how they'll turn out.
"You are using the oldschool/retro look as a crutch for adding spirit or life to otherwise pointless pictures."
Again. As fair an opinion as any.
"I'm thinking in particular of the ones of your pets and your eyes."
Fair enough.
Everyone knows the effect is fake
They sure do.
Maybe in 5 years, people will be putting up low resolution pictures, riddled with JPEG and tiny-chip artifacts, and people will call it pretty?
Who knows. People may find the same novelty. I think the difference is in the fact that it's simulation of 'analog' photos, and analog has very much become a novelty.
Edit: In the same way that some people use vintage/analog Production equiptment (cameras, 4 track recorders, records, virtual analog synths) to certain effect, or go as far as simulating retro/vintage conditions, I enjoy simulating retro/vintage photos.
Edit2: For me, seeing the outcomes (of even the most mundane photos, such as my pets) is exciting and interesting. All effects (lense, flash, film) are completely randomized before the photo is taken, and I don't see the outcome until after it is taken, which I find enjoyable.
Anyways, I did not intend for this thread to house arguments/opinions. I meant for people to post their simulated (or real) analog-ish photos. If you want to continue this discussion you are free to create a thread for it.
