      Oneironaut's Beatbox

Here's where I'll start posting a few of my Fruity Loops projects. I usually work with a mixture between FL Studio and Acid 4.0, but I don't have any Acid work on this first couple of beats, crits and comments more than welcome.

They're not perfect, some of them not even finished, but if you don't like these beats, either:

      A) You have No Bass.

      B) You Can't Dance.

or C) All of the Above.

      Haha, j/k.....Maybe. >.>

      Enjoy.

      really cool O

the first one made me want to chill at a party with some pot or booze or both

but I'd have to say that Full Moon 51 is my favorite...I can totally picture people dancing at some elite futuristic space dance club, then sitting at the chrome bar drinking flourescent martinis

Samples used for this one: 1st Guitar Riff from a Korn/Deftones/ and I think Rage ATM collab song, 2nd Guitar Rift from Tool, winds (the one's you can barely hear when the bass kicks in) from an Enigma Song (forget the name)

I listened to all of these (all exept the ones that said the file wasn't found) and absolutely loved them all. Amazing stuff.

Can't wait to hear the lyrics that go with Are You Ready 49.
      Awesomeness.

Thankya Vex. You know, I still dunno why Putfile puts numbers on the ends of some of the filenames. I thought, at first, that it was just because there was more than one file on Putfile with the same filename, but I've uploaded files that I KNOW couldn't have the name of something else, and still gotten numbers like 80-95 on them. Weird.

Maybe I'll record the lyrics for that track sometime, now that I've got a working mic.

Cool stuff. Fruity Loops is a great program, and so is acid. Have you ever tried FL Studio or Reason? Both very powerful programs also. I have a couple buddies who produce House and Drum and Bass using those ones. I would post the link, but i don't want to hijack your thread!

Damn...my bad, man. I never even saw that reply^^

To answer your question, though: Yeah, I use Fruity Loops Studio, now. I never tried reason, though, but I've heard a lot of good things about it.

      Now...
Here is a new one I'm working on:

      http://media.putfile.com/Superluminal-Unfinished

The guitar, so far, was just a freestyle session I recorded, but I'm going to go back and memorize some of the patterns I did and perfect them.
I've gotten another Korg Electribe synthesizer that matches the beat machine I got a while back. This one does waves and other sounds, rather than percussions.
On this song, I'm using those two synths, ACID, Fruity Loops, and my guitar so I'll be adding more shit to it.

      Thanks, man!
And yeah, I love Tool's 46 and 2. That riff, alone, is the shit.

      Flinte:
Thanks! And that thread's still around here somewhere. When I get done with this track, I'll post it on there. Until then, you can probably find it with the search option.

Here's a new hip-hop beat that I'm working on, using some of Clint Mansell's Requiem for a Dream theme (there are actually two versions mixed in here, along with some digital instruments of my own).

It's still kind of sloppy right now, and it's far from finished. I think I need to tone down the bass a bit, because my stereo bass is set to -2, and it's still shaking my house. Haha. But anyway, the timing isn't perfect, and I still haven't really gotten any exact position for verses/hooks/etc. Right now I'm just working on the composition, and what kind of instruments I should add, and where. Let me know what you all think!

The Requiem for a Dream one is sick. I love that soundtrack... maybe boost it up a little, though? The strings are fantastic.

      Thanks, CB.
Once I get all of the samples and digital instruments in, I'll work on the sound quality. I'm pretty much finished with it, but I'm sure I'll want to add a few more finishing touches, before I'm ready to call it "done." I haven't really worked on it very much in the past month or so, though, but I'll finish it up soon.

Working on getting my computer back up to speed, so I haven't been using Fruity Loops lately, but I've been working more with the stand-alone KORG synthesizers, and still making beats. I'm getting better and learning to 'live mix' with them (where I control the kills and cueing of the patterns on the fly, instead of having them preset). Here are just a couple of fun test projects I did last night. Some parts are horribly out of sync, because I was experimenting with timing and stylish 'cuts', but as I said, these were just test runs to get more used to the technique.

Micahel Jackson - Leave Me Alone

      Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal

Once I'm ready to reinstall Fruity Loops, I'll re-record the mix and throw in some other stuff like basslines and other samples. But for right now, I've been having fun just improvising to these beats with my guitar.

Just a taste of a new breakbeat track I'm producing. Beat is made with two KORG Electribes (amkII and RmkII) with some samples thrown in, and everything mixed down with ACID 4.0. This is just a test, though. I still have a lot of work to do on the track. Lots of stuff to add; timing to change; stuff to rearrange. I'll be back with an update later, but tell me what you think, so far!

Pulled a sample out of Sheryl Crow's 'If it Makes You Happy', and messin around with it. Created the percussions and scanning/flipping through the KORG for some synth or bassline to put behind it. Just a work in progress for now, but putting it out there. If you like a particular section, let me know and I may keep that for the final draft.

That's some pretty cool stuff you've got going on there.

One question, I've wondered how this is done, what are you using to get the individual parts (i.e. vocals from Smooth Criminal)?

      Thanks, Supernova!

Actually, there are a few different methods for getting samples. More technical producers sometimes put out vocal tracks of popular songs (just the vocals, without any instrumentation), and you can download either at places like Acapellas.com or bittorrent sites, then just chop them up and pick out what lyrics you want to use. But if you can't get ahold of a vocal track, you can just cut your own samples out, like I did with this last one. I literally just went to youtube and looked up "Sheryl Crow If it Makes You Happy Unplugged". I did unplugged because there wouldn't be a lot of overpowering instruments behind her voice. I recorded the youtube video's auto using Audacity, cut the chorus out and then put it into SonicFoundry ACID 4.0, where I trimmed it and looped it so it would play over-and-over, in intervals that I could match with a beat.

There are also 'do it yourself' ways of creating vocal tracks, but they don't often come out very well. The smooth criminal vocal was a DIY track that someone made and put out for DJ's to download. It wasn't perfect, and there is some of the original song still audible, but I covered most of it up with other instruments.

Thanks for the info. I was always curious where people get the parts to work with, like for example this guy FAROFF | Free Music, Tour Dates, Photos, Videos

      Haha. Nice^
I love that about digital music. If you're resourceful enough, you can be your own band. Heh. Just takes a little creativity, in making it your own sound, but the basic elements to songs are all over the place.

      Here are a few updates:

Make You Happy: If it makes you happy WIP by Cognizant1 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
(I put in a bit more instrumentation to break up the vocals, so it's not so repetitive. Also added a little more to the break at the end. Still got more to do with it, but I like the way it's sounding so far.)

Another work in progress: Beat On the Drums WIP by Cognizant1 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Skyrim beat sample: Skyrim Beat WIP by Cognizant1 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
(I love this one, because it practically started writing itself. I was starting to put the basic percussions together and didn't really notice that I had the Skyrim title screen up, on the PS3, and it was playing in the background. The two different tunes started mixing by themselves, and nearly the exact same tempo, and it sounded pretty dope. So I recorded the audio from the game and sync'd it more with the beat, and added some more percussions. I still have a lot more to do, but I love the way this sounds, especially because it came about by accident. Lol.)
