I finally settled on an idea, and this time I'm setting myself a plot rather than just pantsing it.

Sounds like a plan You can write a story by winging it? I only did that for my gened classes.

Yeah, that's how I write ALL of my stories. This will the first one with a pre-planned plot. I scratched my original idea, because I just couldn't get what I wanted out of it, so expect something slightly darker.

Sure you can wing a story. Sometimes plotting (more likely overplotting) can hamper the fun and suck the energy from the whole process.

<-- Is into the winging story business, minus the ocean-sized plot holes.

Only got one paragraph at the moment (but a fairly sure outline in my head). It starts with:

My watch is one minute twelve seconds slow.

I better pull my finger out otherwise this could get very embarassing.

I've still not started yet, thinking about doing so now. Yay for lighthearted yet violent supernatural adventures?

Yeah, haven't started but I know what I want to do.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

There should be a new topic for submissions, and I don't think so, but you can attach a PDF to your post.

Well, I started and got one page so far. I'm looking at around 15, maybe even twenty pages, I hope. I think I'm off to a good start, though. Unlike usual, I'm starting a bit slow and building up with this one. I think it'll turn out good.

So anyone want to give a few details on on their story?

Hearing about other's stories might get my behind in gear.

Sure, just nobody steal my somewhat clichéd idea. Mine's sort of a cross between National Treasure (the characters are similar, I'm going to try and keep the same lighthearted yet big-picture tone, etc.) and St. Peter's Werewolf (great book, from which I'm borrowing a lot of elements). A treasure hunter/archaeologist finds an artifact in Scotland, while in search of clues to something else, becomes a werewolf, struggles with this, and uncovers a quite big...something. I can't tell you what, or it would ruin the story for you.

There will be violent, gory deaths, twists and turns, adventure, and even a love interest.

Mine no where near that long, mine would be classified as a short short story I think, it's three pages.

Oh crap, I just tried attaching it to a post. DV has an attachment limit size of 19KB. The PDF is 30KB, and mine's short. Anyone know a good media host?

I'm thinking that if there is a good host, someone can just take all the submissions and put them into one folder for easy access. I think it would take up an awful lot of space to put them all here on DV. Also, I'd like to be able to print them, as for some reason I just have a hard time reading extended pieces of text on the computer. I'd rather be able to look at them on paper and also make marks on it if I feel like it.

As for mine, I think I've scrapped my first idea. It was a good idea, but I'm just not motivated to follow through. I started on a new one and it has kind of a film-noir feel to it, but I just need to come up with an original plot... No biggie

I actually got round to writing a portion of it yesterday and it was less enjoyable a process than I had hoped. But still, some of it is done. About 15% I'd say. Trouble is, the character's been in my head for a while now, and he's accumilating more stuff as it goes along, but I can't express a lot of it in a concise way, so it comes out as either vulgar brute-force statements or overly-decorated waffle.

One line (approximated because I don't have a copy with me right now):

"Likewise, the roof was an iron skeleton arched in the centre as if to form a vast metal diaphram pushing up on lungs full of sky; filling the gaps between its many bones where plates of glass that from down here seemed impossibly thin, such that it may break at any moment and the whole atmosphere will collapse down on us and drown us all."

Yeah, waffle. And all one sentence, of course. I must make this a short story!

Indeed, great imagery IDX. I decided that given the time remaning, I'm shortening my submission to roughly five pages, which will cover up to my character's first kill as a werewolf. That way it centers more firmly around the topic at hand, anyway. I will be writing more of this story, however, and posting the rest.

I've got the third page written now, though I skipped the second (don't ask).
