Thread: Have you guys tried Digital Watercolor?

Looks a lot like a photoshop filter... are you sure it is not?

(because I can make something like that with a photograph and photoshop in about 10 seconds)

Looks like a simple series of convolutions to me.

As wasup said it requires one mouse click and zero intelligence to do in Photoshop and any other decent image editor.

I see, however, that you've mixed the filters up a bit (binary edge detection round the edges, watercolour-type thing in the middle) and maybe fiddled with the histogram, but...

Yeah, I thought it was obvious. Its almost all various photoshop filters with some tablet painting over it. It rediculously easy.

I think I took that photo in Japan. Maybe Kanagawa? I can't remember. I did write a 20 page reasearch paper on the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Francisco. That place has a pretty shady history. Bunch of crooks

Well my whole point was that straight-up photoshop filters do not in fact look very good nor require much skill (nor effort).

That is my exact same problem, money and someone to go with. Japan looks like such an awesome place, i am considering moving there if i like it, i think i will like it. I can just imagine a much more relaxed lifestyle.

What does this mean really?

You , T joe so many others know all this digital computer stuff. I have come a long way but not in the fashion of creating art.
It's just a brush, watercolor and some paper.
I'm out off the loop.

Yeah, its a badass place. I studied Japanese art and Architecture heavily in school, so I took an artists tour of Japan and Korea right after I graduated. There are so many incredible places to visit on this planet. Seems a little overwhelming. I always take the attitude that there will never be a convenient time to travel, so you just have to pick up and go now.

Thats a pretty bold statement. Photoshop is just a tool in your toolbox like any other. Whether or not it looks good or bad is just subjective. I know people who argue against acrylics because they don't require as much rigor as oils. There was the same debate when felt tip markers were invented. People said they are easier than watercolor, so they should not be used for presentation. Its just snobbery.

You judge a piece of work based on its merits, not based on whether or not you can do it. Not whether or not you think it took a lot of effort. I can whip out a watercolor landscape in an hour that would make someone unfamiliar with watercolor shit their pants. Doesn't mean its a well thought out piece of art. Just means the viewer sucks at watercolor, so is easily impressed.

The reason I posted these is that I noticed a lot of people putting up photography and photoshop work. I find that a lot of people just use photoshop to make collages or sharpen their images for printing. I was wondering if anyone did stuff like this with it also. Maybe I should have been more clear in my original post. Sorry.
