Psilocybin is a natural substance which has many medicinal benefits, and one interesting fact to get us started: Deer are known to voluntarily eat these mushrooms to pass the long winters. Magic mushrooms are not addictive, you cant eat them every day, you can't even eat them once a week because they will simply not work. You can't abuse them. The effects of muscimol are substantially different from psilocybin and psilocin, found in "magic mushrooms", as the chemicals target separate parts of the brain. Muscimol has been shown to lack "structured" hallucinations in most cases, and the effects are frequently compared to a lucid dream state. No.. It's not all the same. Read some of the comments for that video. There's a difference between dissociatives and psychedelics. yeah, you're right, those ones are a deliriant which is a class of hallucinogens.. Those still would get reindeer pretty messed up.. But thats not the point i'm making. They freaking eat mushrooms to get high ON PURPOSE. Nature ftw I only have experience with pcilocybin !

I've never found any truth behind this, even when searching online. Both I and my closest tripping buddy are allergic to penicillin and have never had any problems. yeah, you're right, those ones are a deliriant which is a class of hallucinogens.. Those still would get reindeer pretty messed up.. Also, they're not deliriants. They're much closer to dissociatives, like Litost said, but they're not really any of the big three. They work through a totally separate mechanism, like salvia (but not the same one as salvia). Prepared correctly, I'd say they're kind of like a psychedelic/dissociative fusion, but definitely nothing like deliriants. Anything will create delirium if you take enough, but that doesn't make their hallucinations similar to anticholinergics, which I unfortunately have experience with.

Just because it says so on Wikipedia doesn't mean it's the same type of drug, Wikipedia is far too general with some of its descriptions. Amanita muscaria and deliriants do NOT have similar effects, mental or physical. The fact that everyone calls it a deliriant because they don't know better is why people tend to push this drug aside thinking it belongs in the trash with other deliriants, but what they're overlooking is a genuinely powerful hallucinogen that ranks up there with the true psychedelics and dissociatives in its ability to cause revelations and ego death. It's a unique atypical psychedelic with a lot to offer, not a deliriant.

I'd imagine they get no negative side effects if they keep doing them. is that strain around ever, or too poisonous?

From what I understand, the reindeer do not receive the same toxic effects that people do with raw Amanitas. The reason it was good to drink their urine is because there are two main psychoactive compounds in the Amanitas: muscimol and ibotenic acid. Muscimol is the hallucinogen, and ibotenic acid is a prodrug that converts to more muscimol after it is ingested. However, ibotenic acid is also a neurotoxin and is likely the reason for what people call the "deliriant" effects. It agonizes NMDA receptors which causes overstimulation and excitotoxicity (killing nerve cells), and that likely adds a very heavy and unpleasant mindfuck. Muscimol, however, is not metabolized at all - it is excreted in urine as muscimol. So if the mushrooms were to pass through the reindeers' bodies first, I imagine what would remain would be nothing but muscimol. The Amanitas can also be cooked properly to turn all of the ibotenic acid to muscimol anyway, so no reindeer are required for a good trip from it. It's possible to get pleasant effects from just eating them raw too, but less likely. The ratios of muscimol to ibotenic acid will vary a lot depending on the mushroom.
