      Love is without words.

With love there is only the other.

Love is it's own end. Thought does not stem from love, because the mind cannot move. There is nothing to say of love.

There is the seeing and the thinking.
      _____

A man who thinks about love may perhaps write a thesis on it, but a lover lives it, sees it.

Thinking is nothing but reiterating a thought. You may say, "The roseflower is very beautiful," but how many times have you heard this before? How many times have you read this before? Or you may say, "The roseflower is just as beautiful as the face of my beloved." How many times have you heard this before too? How many times have you read it before? Or you may say, "The flower is very fresh" -- but this too, how many times have you heard or read it before? What good are thoughts? How will you be able to enter the being of that roseflower by thinking about it? Thinking can only lead you into whatsoever is in your memory about a rose.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

It's an emotion that is felt as a result of a physical/chemical process in your body

(that doesn't mean it isn't wonderful and valuable - let's just not pretend it's a mystic force that "conquers all")

Your right, it isn't a mystic force. It's a mystic grenade.

I think a lot of people get confused between Love and Lust. Which are two completely different things. Lust is when you only care about someone because of the way they look. It's easily confused with love because it makes a person think that they want to care for someone, but in reality they are just "using" them for their looks. Although the feeling of lust can be very strong at times, it is really horrible and selfish and it's just a feeling that will wear off. Love on the other hand is an unselfish way of caring about some one. To me, that is the best definition of love that I can think of, yes it's short, and maybe it doesn't mean much, but it can have meaning if you're honest with yourself when dealing with weather something is love or lust.

I don't know what love is. Have I ever experienced it? No. Have I come close? Definitely not. I want to know what love is, but the opportunity has not come yet. I'm waiting...

There is also universal love, infinitely accessible, independent of self, circumstance and desire, resonating throughout beginningless time.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

@Lysergic and bluefinger: Yesss. Coffee is best with sugar, and only drinkable without cream. Literally, not a metaphor.

@lysergic: Love and hate are opposite ends of a magnet. Loathing, what most people think hate is, is like a nonmagnetic substance, and possibly antimatter.

@the thread: I have developed two definitions for love. One is more philosophical, and ripped straight from a Heinlen book (Jubal Harshaw is one of the most insightful fictional characters I have ever read of), where love is when you care more for another person;s happiness than your own. (may be romantic, but often is not.) My other definition takes a more measurable, scientific-y approach, love being represented by a cube with axis X being hormonal compatibility, axis Y being personality compatibility, and axis Z being... Aw, crud, let me check my notes.... the 3rd axis is how aesthetically pleasing they are to you. It sounds like it should be deeper, but I think that's what I figured the 3rd axis to be. Anyway, that's my more cynical side's definition of love.

Here is what Everlong has to say on love.
Based on my experiences on love, I have come up with a couple of points on love.

      1. Love at times is great, others it is a bitch.

      2. Sometimes love is like wearing a blindfold over your head.

      3. Love in itself is a drug, it is addictive, it gets you high, it makes you do things you wouldn't normally do and has severe withdrawal symptoms.

      4. Love and sexual desire are two very different things.

      5. Love has a great rise, yet the fall is hundreds of times greater.
Question: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
      Answer: Neither, single-celled organisms did.

I think that sums it up best.
