      Tell me about psychedelics

Okay so school the summer is coming up, fast! and me and my buddies are planning a camping trip in this really awesome park and we decided were going to try shrooms on the trip. I have absolutely no experience with drugs (I don't smoke and hardly drink) but I have tried marijuana.

Now a few things about that - When I smoke weed I tend to become very inverted meaning I do alot of thinking so much so that I sometimes feel like I alienate myself from the world. If you don't understand what I mean just ask me but ya that's it in a nutshell.

Soooo my question is directed towards people who have experimented with psychedelics and who have some good advice, experiences, and tips with the stuff. Is it possible for me to "think" myself crazy? Are there any potentially harmful short/long term effects?

I've watched and read about psychedelics on the internet but I want to hear real stories from you guys.

First, there is no comparing them to any other drug - they're not like that!

An important thing is: It will be what you make of it.

Make sure set & setting are right.
The set is how you feel inside. Are you balanced or stressed? What are
your intentions? Are you ready to 'let go'?. There will be no place to hide.
Clinging on certain thoughts, or wishing it would all just 'go away' are
usually the things that might turn a trip into a bad one. Don't try to have
too many expectations, don't try to remain in control, if you do, it might be
violently taken from you. Basically just flow and let your ego go. (Keep that
in mind, you'll know). But if you have experiences with lucid dreaming, it
might not seem that weird to you then.

Basically most of your experience will come down to how your mind is set.
Be open, look forward to it and it can be the most profound and wonderful
      experience in your life.

So then there is the setting.
A camping trip seems to be a very good start.
Be sure you feel comfortable with the people on
the trip and there is a good chemistry. Try to set
the mood a little, but basically nature will take care
of that. Be sure you're in a save enviroment and
there are no possibilities around to hurt you.

Make sure everything is done when you start, so there
are no things to 'worry about'. Make sure it's comfortable,
and you have stuff to eat and drink around you.
Are there going to be other people around?

The best way to start the journey is in a safe, friendly environment
with a clear head and many good thoughts in it.

I tend to become very inverted meaning I do alot of thinking so much so that I sometimes feel like I alienate myself from the world.
      This depends.
It's more likely that you will feel the connection between everything and
become a part of it all. But whilest this you might be very inverted and
not talking at all. How it will turn out is again, all up to you.

Is it possible for me to "think" myself crazy?
Your thoughts probably will be moving so fast, that you'll stop the
'thinking'. It will feel as a waste of time and pretty much insignificant.

But yes, you might actually experience becoming crazy. You might also
become afraid of going insane. Keep in mind: This will be over, once
the trip is gone. Even though time might seem nonexistent, you will return.
This is important to know during the experience.

Are there any potentially harmful short/long term effects?
Psychedelics can discover anything that's buried deep inside yourself. It CAN
reveal a mental problem, but only if it has been there before. It's not likely
though. -> Make sure your 'inner set' is in the right condition. Be honest to
      yourself on this one.

But, the experience can also be changing the way you are viewing the world.
I think in a very positive way; and they might be having an influence on the
choices you will be making afterwards. This is more comparable though with
someone going into space and seeing the earth from a far distance.

Tell me what my dream is saying.

My dream took place in a forest and this forest was big enough that no one was around me for many miles, of course right but I have some "forests" in my area that you can still see the roads and hear cars. But back on topic my friends offered me some shrooms which I happily accepted and even though I have a hard recollection of the entire dream I remember I small portion of it and I remember after eating them looking out in front me and seeing my vision in hues of different colors. My perception was filtered through the color spectrum (red, green, blue, yellow) too many to count and definitely too many to see. I remember being immediately shocked by it. But that's its, that's all I recall. A moment before unawareness of the dream took over and me waking up.

i tried mushies for the first time a couple weeks ago. here is my experience:

ok so my best buddy came to visit me and i had kept telling her that i wanted to try them. so i got them from a good friend of whom i know and trusted very well. i have always gotten my greens from him and it is good stuff so i went for it. we both took a slice (whatever that is..im still not good with those terms yet) and we went to this park place out in the middle of nowhere. Now originally i was going to try them with another one of my great friends on a camping trip this summer like you. Well this came earlier so i decided to try them sooner. So we ate them. my friend ate them straight up, while i put them in yogurt and ate them that way. Most people i have talked to say eat them straight up or put them in a pb &j or tea or something. We started to trip and it was CRAZY. it was a blast because A. i was with my best buddy B. noone else was around. C. no worries at all. we stayed in the woods in the snow for about 3 hours. Now here comes the terrible part. we sat in my car. we were going to wait about 6 hours then go to a party. well thing is, it started to snow storm TERRIBLY. and out there, they dont plow the roads, so we decided, the best thing was to get out of there before it was too late. so we had to DRIVE. (never drive while tripping) and it was in a snow storm too. we were pan icking like mad and we finally got to town and sat in a parking lot for an h our crying and shit and my friend wanted squares. i ending up texting a guy and he got really annoyed and i got mad at him and started to cry and telling him to shut the fuck up. it was awful. we got some food and saw this guy get squares for my friend. it was about 5 hours. we went home, which wasnt bad. I went in my room and i was having hot flashes and my stomach felt gross. we passed out at around 8pm. my stomach ending up hurting for the next 3 days.
all in all, it was a fantastic feeling and ended up into a bad trip. If there was no storm and we hadnt had to drive, i think we would have been fine.
      i say- go for it.
make sure you know and trust the person you get them from because there are poisonous ones although you most likely wont get them unless you go foraging yourself. be in a comfortable environment with no worries. if you have ANY second thoughts right before taking them, i would suggest you dont take them. i had second thoughts because mine were blue and my friend had never had blue mushies before so i thought they were poisonous. i ended up scaring myself for 2 weeks.
it was a good time though and i think you should try it .
      have fun & be safe.

The first 3 hours or so were amazing. I was dancing around in the snow. It was like a winter wonderland. Something out of a book, like Narnia =p My friends face kept changing and the bark on the trees were out of whack as well. The snow on the ground was like a bug in the rug. Sometimes i just lost reality and forgot what i was doing and such. it wasn't scary at all during that time. very peaceful. I do remember that i kept wanting to know if i was standing on a hill and my friend was like "what the fuck is up with you and that hill!!" cause i wanted to know so badly. i dunno i just felt like i HAD to know if i was on a hill. I was analyzing it and everything.

      What he said.

You might want to consider the group dynamic that happens within your group of friends. If you argue or fight frequently, it might not be such a good idea. Of if someone is an absolute asshole, or has a bad attitude. But other than that, if your group is tight, should be a blast.

Set and setting are, like dajo wrote, the most important thing in a trip. If for whatever reason things start going bad, just move to a new location and find something fun to distract yourself. Also, make sure you have no other commitments for the rest of the day. If you do, you'll just dwell on hoping that you come down by that time. Make sure your loved ones know where you are so they don't call to check up on you (I don't like to talk to my parents when I'm tripping ).

Have a shit load of fun! Psychedelics are awesome.

Just a thought on the come-up. For me personally, I get a little wigged out cause my stomache gets upset a bit. I normally just try to relax as much as possible and remember that it'll pass quickly. Once the onset hits me then I'm clean as ever.

I'm a pretty small guy standing at 5' 6" and about 146 pounds plus I plan to take 3.5-4 gram dosage so this could happen to me too. Question: would it be better to try and experience it fully?

hmm, that's a pretty large dose for your first time, but that should be fine. You'll defintely experience it fully no matter what you do. Light meditation might help you during the come up just to keep yourself calm. What will be happening is your body trying to reject the chemical changes AND you'll become insanely aware of every process going on in your body. It'll be odd, but you don't have to worry about doing anything special to experience it fully. Being on any psychedelic is amazing no matter what you do.

You don't have to do anything, stuff just happens

haha thanks for the advice timmy. I'm at a mental ease now I think I have a pretty good idea what to expect, I won't be going into it without this state of mind thats for sure. Now its time to just count down the days until the epic voyage of self-discovery embarks.

I guess the biggest piece of advice I can give you is that all the preparation in the world cannot prepare you for a psychedelic adventure. ESPECIALLY if you've never done it before.

There's really nothing you can know until you try it, and even after you do try, typically, no two trips are the same.

      Good luck!

OH! You're probably going to want a little pocket-notebook of some type, it's always nice to record your sporadic thoughts, and interesting to look back on them when sobered up.

Had a nice experience couple days ago.

      I didn't eat that much (only approximately 1.5 - 2 gr), so I was
staying in control. At first I started to see things a lot sharper. I
was noticing many things in my room I haven't before and was
just in awe of the beauty of all the different things. (Took about 15 min)

Everything was filled with life, the icons on my desktop were dancing
around (to my wishes basically), the posters became alive, my ceiling
was lots of fun (especially with some spider webs ), etc.
I was looking at a white sheet of paper, ever notice how much is going
on there? I started drawing a little with a pen that had a red color,
this color was glowing and it felt just... 'fluent'. Also I was changing
the seat many times, because it changed the entire perception I was having.

Meanwhile I felt very very clear in my head, I could think about
anything and got so much progress done in that time. After a while
I understood 'everything' and just started laughing a few times,
being in the all-knowing state is fun. There is this ocean of knowledge
and we can reach and bathe in it, everytime we choose to. We are
indispensably connected to it, part of it, basically are 'it'.

I then realized (again) that the outer world is the inner world created
by us, only our perception of it. I am in control and I can change the
world to whatever I would want it to change to. Everything was going
to be alright, in fact everything IS alright and this knowing feeling
(it was so obvious to me) is just wonderful.

I also realized that all things in life are a choice. I, consciously or unconsciously
choose, how I want to experience the world. For example: It is me who is
connecting the beauy to an object, it's a subjective state. Realizing this, I
could change my perception of objects - all of this wonderful world is there,
wether we see it or not, it's all around us (or to be more precise - in us).

And then there was this overwhelming feeling of love. You know, if you just
love everything und you realize why that is. How wonderful other human
beings are and I just wanted to speak to someone, wanted to hug others,
tell them that everything is alright, no need to be scared or sad. But
I didn't because I knew that there was no way I could explain anything like
that at the moment (especially since you can't really 'describe' psychedelic
experiences, it is something that needs to be experienced).

It's just such an upflifting feeling and I want to make sure, to never forget it.
Not to fall back into a bad, unhappy and wasteful state of mind. Life is a ride
and the longer you (choose to) stay on it, the more real it seems to become.
Psychedelic are just a perfect reminder, that the world is just not as bad, as
some people make it out to be. 'What? You're actually taking life seriously?'

On Tuesday I plan on tripping with a very good friend of mine who is also
becoming increasingly interested in psychedelics. I'm very much looking
forward to him and me going on the journey. We have about 3gram per per
      person.

      3.5-4 gram
That is quite a lot actually. hehe.
You will not be in control at all, that's for sure
Make sure you post how it turned out.

It'd be safer to maybe take 2.5 gram first and then
after awaiting the effects for an hour or so go with
the rest. Just keep in mind.. first time. That's up to
      you though.

totally depends on the potency. He could end up with really weak shrooms in which this would be perfectly acceptable. He might end up with really strong shrooms in which case this could be crazy awesome.

As for working your way up, I've always been under the philosophy that you might as well just take the plunge first time. The difference between kinda tripping and really tripping is night and day. You can't work up to it. It's like working up to sky diving. You can't just jump off a two foot ledge, then a five foot ledge, then a ten foot ledge, and then expect to be prepared to jump out of a plane.

      Btw, this is Timmy Luke.

I'vbe been quite interested in this, however I have never done it. I have researched stuff on it, like how you should take them correctly (good setting, not stressed, stuuff like that). I just wanted to know, what do you see when you do them? Does everything just get all colorful and sharp? OR do things bend and morph, and do things like "spill color" or something? I've never really seen many things like this, so if you could describe the sights you see, that would be awesome. I understand that you can't describe how you feel, I already figured out that that is something you need to experience.

Hey guys, I'm back. Feels good man

I've never really seen many things like this, so if you could describe the sights you see, that would be awesome. I understand that you can't describe how you feel, I already figured out that that is something you need to experience.
Well, a trip can come in various shapes and sizes. Sometimes you don't see anything odd at all (rare). Most people say that the head-trip is infinitely more exciting than the visuals anyway, but since you would like to know I'll try to describe what I see.

Generally, depending on the substance, things tend to swirl into spiral shapes. Patterns will start to develop all over blank surfaces, kindof like tessellations. Some people describe things as melting, but I don't get that as much. Lots and lots and lots of fractals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal

Patterns seems to be the big kicker. Everything will start to feel like you've seen it before, and it will all become familiar. This, however, is only if you stay and look at one room or one object. I like to take a walk down a regular ol' neighborhood and look at houses. I'm always amazed at little things I've never noticed in front yards. Every house will be incredibly different and seem like it completely stands out from every other house on the block.

The same thing goes for anything, not just houses. Exploring is my favorite thing to do on any psychedelic.

Edit: I think the 'sharper' or 'colors are more vivid' idea comes from the head trip. You'll become insanely aware of everything that is happening with your body. You'll no longer just grab a soda from the table and take a swig. You'll tell your arm to reach out and clasp the bottle with your hand and gently bring it close to your lips and tilt it back to fill your mouth with liquid. Then when you get to swallowing you'll be like "no, wait.. how the hell do I swallow?"

Cool, that makes more sense. Are the fractals/patterns just like a filter you see through? Or is it more of, well metaphoricallly, like wrapping paper on things?

ehhhh, it totally depends on the trip. Sometimes I don't get visuals until I really stare at something. Then it just starts spiraling all crazy and gets patterns. Mostly, though, there will be a sort of tumbly, distorted filter to everything, and then when you stop to stare at something it gets infinitely more intense.
