      Tell me about pleasurable pain

The cold sore/canker sore thread here, made me wonder...
Am I a complete basket case to think some pain can be pleasurable?
Can anyone relate to what I'm asking?

***Grrr about the thread typo, hopefully it's fixed for everyone lol***

I guess you have to be a little bit masochist I like wallbanging and wallpunching very much when I'm stressed

And sometimes just for fun :O

Oooh yeah... I remember THOSE days. I used to plow into walls, doors, trees, the floor etc lol, but that was more for a stress release than pleasure.

In the Lounge is a topic on what kind of clothes you wear, and my ideo (forget it, I'm not even going to TRY to spell that word!!!).... my contrariness never ceases to confuse me.
Tags and seams on/in clothes drive me to the brink of insanity because I find them painful and yet minor self-mutilations are pleasurable WTH?

My wires are defintely crossed somewhere

If someone lightly caresses my butt or back I find that excruciatingly painful as well, but strained muscles aren't?!

      I annoy myself lol

Well first off, I think this thread technically doesn't belong here, but anyways...

I have this really really bad toe, in fact, two bad toes. The slightly less bad of them feels reaaaallllly good to squeeze it to make it hurt in such a way that it takes away the itch. Like, it hurts to squeeze it, but at the same time, it's like getting rid of a really bad itch.

I know what you mean by both accounts...

But I truly want to know what causes some people to perceive pain as pleasurable, or how common such things are.

Like anxiety. I don't understand how someone can have a panic attack yet smile and laugh through what they're going through (in other words, there is no mental/emotional distress so why the physical symptoms).

Some things truly boggle my brain and I want people to tell me what the differences are or their experiences so I don't feel like such a fruitloop.

Another thread that I inspired.... Anyway, as I stated also in the cold sore thread, i love all kinds of pain except those of mucles being stretched too far (obviously depending on which muscle, though) and of canker sores.

I think spanking stimulates the pudendal nerve or some such something or other, which tends to be pleasurable.

There's some chemical in the brain that gets released when purposely putting one's self under enough pain(i.e. slitting wrist, shocking yourself, etc.) that causes temporary euphoria.

Taking a hit in a fight. Get's the bloodlust going on.

Wow. I must be the only pussy here, 'cause "OW" is commonly in my repertoire of interjections.

Not being fond of pain doesn't make you "pussy", rather your survival instinct seems to work fluently.

Indeed. I don't believe I've heard a pussy say "ow."

The whole flinching thing is retarded too. However, some pussies do flinch.

Sometimes laughing really hurts, when this happens

I suggest laying off the funnies for a while.

I went through several months of meditative training 're-wiring' the way my brain percieves pain. I was given several options of how my body could percieve pain... I could replace it with pressure, warmth, cold, or an 'itch'. I went for pressure, just 'cause it seemed the best option for me. So, now although I somewhat 'bypass' the pain part of injuries.... I still get all the fun biological functions leading to slight euphoria, stress release, and various other 'experiences'.

Haha, being a scardey cat is something that was trained out of me at a very young age.
My younger brother and I, along with some friends, use to play "Gotcha" (like a war game/tag) ALL the freagin time.
The best thing about it is that we lived on a Navy Base in Pensacola, Fl and near us were Forts Barrancas and Rebout (sp) as well as the Air Museum and a couple other hidden spots that were hidden and forbidden
If we made any noise at all it meant our games were over and we would either get kicked out of the cool places or in trouble for being where we weren't allowed.
We even climbed the walls to one of the Forts, at night, a couple of times.

      THOSE were the freagin days!

I learned stealth back then and now I'm stealthy without trying to be.
And even if I have the crap scared out of me, the most (reaction) anyone usually ever get's from me is a raised eyebrow or a flinch.
Even when I stub my toe or something, I usually don't say anything, but rub it silently.

I'm a baby when it comes to uncontrollable pain though. Stomaches and headaches are among the worse things for me to endure (I can become so filled with gas, for days, that it feels like I'm having a heartattack- even gas-x doesn't always help and I'll break out sweaty, have hot flashes, chill and whine like a baby)

The chemical that's released is (are?) endorphins.
I've recently gotten into self-branding. The first time I did it, I heard my skin sizzle and I applied WAY to much pressure. It didn't blister and took ??? at least 4 months to heal. There's still a spot in the very center that's "itchy" (implying that I'm still healing beneath the skin).
I was under a LOT of stress a few days ago so I branded half of an infinity symbol above my right ankle (I did the other half a couple days ago). The endorphine rush was almost orgasmic. Both times, the feeling lasted all day. I don't even grimace when I do it.

Yes, in a way. Pain can be really pleasurable for me sometimes. When I'm sad or depressed I like feeling pain to like make me hurt pleasurably for my saddness. lol. (emo style)

And like if I accidentally burn myself while helping out my mom in the kitchen or with my hair straightener, like it hurts but I like it hurting me, it's like making me pay for everything that I did..I almost feel like I deserve the pain I get, so it's pleasurable to me.

The only difference between pain and pleasure, sensorially speaking, is the threshold. At what point does the level of sensation go from being pleasurable to uncomfortable and then to painful. This threshold is different for everyone, and is different in different contexts.

The ability to happily respond to any adversity is the divine.

I definately agree with that. For pain to be pleasurable, for me, I HAVE to be in control. I can stop the experience or worsen it, depending on how I feel.
Maybe that's one of the reasons I prefer to give myself tattoos (X-acto knife and ashes) and piercings (I pierced my bellybutton years ago and my lip just the other day).
I don't trust other people to know what my threshhold is.

Stomach aches and headaches are horrific for me because I'm not in control. I can be a very big baby after a point :/

oh plus, not reaaally sure if this fits but, sometimes for whatever reason, rubbing my bare foot against rough wood against the grain feels good?? don't ask me why i have noooo idea. almost as if it could give a sliver but it never does.
