How do YOU visualize in a VILD?

...not as in "how do you pull off a VILD," as in "how do you, as a person, VILD."

I've been using a variation of WILDing/VILDing lately - basically, laying down and keeping my mind going until I start to feel the effects of SP, and only then starting visualizing. So far I've woken myself up out of excitement every time, but I'm getting there - and it's the closest to a technique being successful for me.

I've tried two different methods of visualizing, however; just imagining the senses of the scene around me, and trying to immerse myself by describing the scene to myself. It's a little hard to explain without an example, so I like to think of them as the "visual method" and the "audible method" -

      1. The visual method is the standard form of, well, visualizing. It's imaging the dreamscape you want to appear in, and trying to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, smells, etc. Then, when you've convinced yourself that it really is around you, you'll be able to "enter" the dream.

      2. The audible method is a little different. It's starting with a blank slate and then slowly describing your dreamscape to yourself. For example, thinking to yourself, "I am lying down several feet off of the shore of a beach. The salty water is rising about an inch up my side. I can easily feel the water sloshing around my body. I can taste and smell the salt in the air. I can hear the wind blowing around the waves, and seagulls crying overhead." Of course, you're not actually describing it out loud; you're just thinking it to yourself.

So, then, I'm curious. How do you visualize? Do you do one of the methods I described above, or do you have your own way? Even better, if you want to, try both of those methods and see which works better for you over the course of a couple days. I just want to see how it works for different people.

For me, I've had better results using the audible method, but I want to know what other people think. ^^ Post away.

I've never had a VILD, and I don't think I'll ever be able to. A few nights ago, I was imagining myself on a beach, feeling the sand in my feet, the smell of the water, etc. And eventually, as I got sleepier, other images and thoughts start to force their way in, and I can literally do nothing about it. After a while I just stop trying and go to sleep. VILD is tough, props to anyone who can pull that off.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.
