Half lucid?

I don't understand, I thought you could only be lucid or not lucid. I didn't know you could be half lucid. Now every time that I would usually be lucid in a dream, I am only half lucid. By half lucid I mean that I know I am dreaming, I have the power to change my dreams, and I do, but I care far to much about what is happening in the dream. Like I was being driven along a seaside road and there is a huge wave that is threatening to sweep the car away. I protect the car from the wave and carry on. These half lucid stints don't last as long as an actual lucid, probably cause I am not fighting to control the dream. The weirdest one to date has been of me coaching someone in a dream, they felt bad and I wanted them to feel better. WHAT THE, what lucid dreamer does that! I knew the entire time I was talking to them I was dreaming, I just wasn't able (didn't consider) to go any further then just lying to them. Has anyone had this problem before? or have you guys just lumped these dreams into the non-lucid pile.

But you ARE lucid in those dreams. All that's needed for a dream to be lucid is for you to be aware that you're dreaming while still in the dream. Going along with the plot isn't a bad thing, nor does it make the lucid dream a "half lucid". These dreams also shouldn't be lumped into any non-lucid pile because that would mean they aren't lucid at all when they are.

Yeah your lucid. If you are conscious at any point in the dream and you at least now your dreaming, then its lucid.

There's either lucid, or not lucid. But you can be more lucid in some dreams than in others. Some dreams you might be very aware, in which cases you can control the dream and you're fairly conscious of the fact that you're dreaming. Other times, it's just a brief "I'm dreaming right now? Cool!" and then you're back to doing whatever you were doing. Both are considered lucids, but you're just not as aware in the second one.

The main problem is that I know that I am dreaming, but I am limited to some set of rules. Usually the problem I have is keeping myself lucid, but here even if I was lucid for the entire dream nothing much interesting would happen. I remember the coaching dream quite well cause as I was talking I knew it was strange - to a point. I knew there was going to be no consequences. I knew I could make him believe anything I wanted to. I knew I was dreaming, but I wasn't allowed to consider the options that usually become clear to me when I usually realise this. Usually I run off start something interesting, cause a thunderstorm... I thought that once you were lucid that was it, now not only do I have to be lucid, I have to be aware that I can do anything. Does anyone know how I would overcome this?

Pretty much increasing your awareness should do the trick. You're halfway there already, just do whatever you're doing more often and with more conviction.

i have semi-lucids as i call them, its where i sorta know i am dreaming but don't take any action on it, like you do. i dont care what others think, to me it is only semi/half-lucid
