      Help With Dreams/Lucidity?

So, I've got a problem. A month or two ago, I would have a dream at least once a night, and I would be able to remember them. If it was a bad month, one dream every two or three days.

But lately, when I close my eyes, it's nothing. I might get a scrap of dream or two, but nothing that really sticks with me.

I've been working on lucidity, but normally I go to bed when I'm tired and somewhat drowsy. And I set up a breathing pattern for myself and let my mind relax while I try to think very, very hard about what I want to dream about.

But if I want to dream about Bioshock - just to throw that out there - I may not have a dream at all that night, or if I do, it's a very short dream and it's got nothing to do with Bioshock.

      Any tips?

Are you stressed? Very overtired? Have you changed any part of how you live? For instance, going to sleep earlier or later, waking up at a different time, eating a different diet, etcetera. Any of these and much more can cause disruptions to your dreams.

Normally I would say no, and that none of that is happening. But now that you mention it, the Con is about to show up later on this month, and I'm very excited about it.

But this has been going on for almost. . . Jimminy. Four or five months now. And only just recently did I start getting very excited about the Con and whatnot.

Hm. I have been going to bed later, but that normally never had any impact on my dreams. I just dreamed.

Does listening to music do anything. . . Now that I think about it, I popped in a CD for quite a long time.

And as soon as I switched the CDs last night to something calming, soothing, and relaxing, I had a dream. Not a long one, but it was something that I was trying to dream about. Hm.

I don't know what 'Bioshock' is but I would suggest don't think about it abstractly but visualize it. The same part of our big human brain that visualizes also dreams. I wrote about this technique here : Visualization Methods using Sound and Audio

      Good luck!

Changing music while sleeping can definitely make a difference. And if you are going to bed earlier then you will start to get used to it and your dreams will be restored (if that is the issue).

P.S. A couple weeks ago I started playing ocean sounds in my room, it helped me fall asleep for the first while, but I forgot to put it on a timer so it went on all night. The sounds started to drive me crazy due to it being on all night so I don't do that anymore.

@Face: It's just a video game. I've been wanting to dream about it for quite a long while because I loved every second of it. I was just throwing it out there as an example. Vizualizing. . . Huh. I haven't tried that before. I will have to try that tonight. Thank you, I'll check out your link after I make this post.

@Miiister: I don't think it's the sleep. I think I should aim to sleep when I'm drowsy. I've been having to spend a good 10 - 15 minutes letting myself relax before I finally start drifting off. I normally keep the music on until I get to sleep, and I don't have it on reset, so it doesn't keep playing.

Thanks guys. Now I have a couple ideas on how to get my dreams restored again.

It's been driving me crazy not remembering/not dreaming at all.

When you go to sleep, tell yourself over and over again "I will remember my dreams" and visualize what you want to dream about. It's a very concrete way to dream how you want to.

I've been trying that, but I find I normally begin to lose interest, or my sister talks to me and distracts me. But I will make a much better conscious effort tonight to do these things - and I hope I'll be able to have another dream tonight. :3

      It worked!

      Kind of.

I must have had 5 - 6 dreams last night, the only one I really remember being the longest one. Unfortunately, I did not get a peaceful, uninterrupted sleep. After every dream was over, I'd keep waking up. . . Or more like, I kept waking up. My sister getting ready in the morning, my dog making some noises - normally I sleep right on through it, but I guess this time I didn't. I hope tonight I'll be able to dream longer, and I'll work on lucidity.

I'd rather avoid having icyhot poured into my eyes by a DC. I almost shot myself because I couldn't see. D:

for most people it takes skill and practice to learn how to wake up in between dreams or should I say just after them. So I think you should take it as a good thing that you wake up after each dream it will help you with certain techniques especially WILD and any WBTB method you attempt to use. Oh and on a side note I once had a lucid dream that involved Bioshock and oblivion both mashed together it was one of the coolest things ever lol. Anyway good luck and I hope things start improving for you.

I've heard that some people wake up after a dream and use that as a technique to get lucid. I think I might have to try tonight. Visualizing seems to help a lot, but being lucid - that seems to be my main goal. I've had a couple lucid dreams before, and I must say I'm very addicted. I'll just have to try hard to gain lucidity.

I bet it was one pretty epic dream. Bioshock is one of my favorite games. I've been wanting to dream of being a Little Sister and a Big Sister for quite a long time now, haha.
