      Lucid dream ANY time.

Hey, a friend of mine referred me to this site the other day after I couldn't stop talking to everyone of a recent discovery of mine. I've been lucid dreaming, on and off somewhat consistently for 11 years. Over the years, I kept trying to find a way for myself to do this at will.
Anyway, in the past week, I think I finally figured it out and have done it (following a series steps I figured out) every night the past 4 nights.
I haven't done much actual research on lucid dreaming, and I had no idea there was even a forum like this to talk about it- most of the stuff I figured out I just learned by trial and error.
Anyway, this is what I did: I went to sleep early, for a good 4 hours and woke up, and stayed up for about an hour. I went back to bed, not sleepy at all, and lay there with my eyes closed, totally awake. I then began to breath regularly, rapidly and deeply, as if I was exercising. I then imagined a large white outlined box in the black void I saw with my eyes closed. I then imagined myself passing through the box. At this point, I'm completely awake, simply daydreaming this. I then imagine another box coming... and then another, and another, slowly getting rapidly until the speeding white boxes form a tunnel. I do this for a long time until eventually, the white boxes and the tunnel are no long a day dream, but my actual dream. At that point, I pass through the tunnel and enter the dream completely lucid, able to control the scenario, cast of character at will. The one thing I can't control is how these other characters will act. Anyway, these past two nights I've been trying to do things that I heard was not easy to do in dreams. So last night and the night before I sat in front of a mirror and examined my reflection, with strange results each time.
So that's it for now, this method has worked for me every time I tried and I've been lucid dreaming for 4 nights in a row now. Do any of these techniques sound familiar to anyone. I think the breathing and the white box thing might be some kind of self-hypnosis, but I really haven't looked into it. I'm just pumped that I can do this all the time!!

      Welcome starman!!!!!

Sounds like you have mastered the art of WILD.

You will be a welcome addition around here. I've been a lucid dreamer for 12 years now!

Your profile says you are from Chicago. I grew up in a little town north of there called Lake Zurich. Ever hear of it? Where in Chi-town are you from?

      Hi Seeker,
Well I grew up in Northbrook, went to school in Evanston at Northwestern, and now I'm living in the city going to medschool.
Anyway, yeah, I think learning about the formal techniques will help alot. The sure fire technique I described actually didn't work the last time I tried it (not very well... only weak lucidity) so I guess it's not the magic dream bullet I hoped it would be.
All my lucid dreaming started kind of dramatically when I was 11 and plagued by a nightmare for several days. The nightmare kept repeating, exactly the same each time. From childhood, I could end nightmares and wake up by squinting my eyes as much as I could during the dream, and when i opened them, I'd be awake. After doing that dozens of times, I finally realized that if I knew it was a dream, I could do more than wake up. And so then I had my first real lucid dream.
anyway, this place is really cool- thanks for the welcome!

I'll try that out tonight. When you say that the white boxes eventually make a tunnel as they increase in speed. Does that mean that the whole tunnel is white because of the blurry effect of the white lined boxes going so fast or can you just see the boxes moving fast or does it not matter? Anyway I hope it works out. I took a nap today which I didn't want to do and so I'll be up later than usual.

      Welcome starman

As Seeker said, it seems as if you have mastered the 'art' of WILD!

hmm...when i do WILD, i usually do it by oversleeping, when i first wake up 9 or so hours after i have gone to sleep, i immediately lay back down to try to go back to sleep, even tho im not tired...then i start forming lines at first, eventually these lines start to form a character, then another, and each character gets more detailed and begins moving, then fighting...as more and more characters are created and the fighting gets more chaotic i slowly enter a dream...well thats one way i do it...the other way is i try falling asleep when im not tired, jus bored, while someone is talking/lecturing...focusing on the words of the lecture, while letting my mind create pictures, letting them come and go...eventually i fall asleep, but trying to listen and pay attention to what the person is talking about keeps my concious mind awake...this second one works for me everytime...but only if im not tired

I cant wild, im a F***in scaredy cat. I start seeing things' like out lines of really freeky looking ppl that look like they want to kill me. I know theres nothing to be scared of, but the fact that im dreaming , and my bodys just lying there kinda scares me (plus the whole parlisiys thing kinda creepy).

Alright this was my first attempt at a WILD (using the technique listen in this page) I admit it was a failure.. in some ways. Mainly because I had to leave before I got into it though I did wake up having a really nice non-lucid dream.. Everytime I got close I became so concious of becoming close that I snaped out of it! Im going to try again tonight since there will be an infinate time limit. Anyone have suggestions of how to just go with the flow and enter it without being fo concious and jumpy?

whoa gonna try this when I wake up to walk the dog early tomorrow then back to sleep...

Its going to be hard because I know myself pretty well I like to think, and usually with these kind of imaginations of fantasies, I know i sometimes get a bit impatient and 'skip' a part... so this is going to be a challenge, hah.

I tried and failed, but got close!
Any of you use flight simulator?
You ever done an ILS approach where you have to keep the airplane inside the boxes?

That is what I am using for visualisation. Whenever I feel the roller coaster, I pretend it is turbulance.

This SHOULD WORK!!! I was close this morning, but my wife was having sinus trouble I I kept losing focus.

Although this started out as a New member post, it has since evolved into a wealth of info on attaining lucidity.

      So I moved it here.....

      Hi everyone, I just joined

That technique sounds a lot like shamanic techniques, you know, visualising a hole/tunnel and going through it. Its quite common in lots of cultures across the world I think, well I know they use it in Tibet as well. The techniques vary but its all the same principle, 'travelling' through a 'tunnel' to enter the dreamstate. Ive actually got some shamanic drumming on cd which is supposed to work really well with this technique although I havent got round to trying it! (I could rip it to MP3 if anyones interested) It recommends fasting for a least a day or something before trying it and I like eating

I tried the LD Test Preset with BWGen last night too - almost had a WILD - definitely worth trying this - you know how HI becomes REAL and 'sucks' you into the dream - I thought about my ashtray and suddenly I saw lots of smoke which was 'real', not long after the start of the preset either.

Ive only had a few LDs over the years Ive been trying, Im going to try to get back into it and make an effort again.

You know what i've done and had no success with? (Well it keeps me aware longer) is i imagine somebody and i walk up to them.

And i with alot of intensity say to him or her "You are a dream character, did you know that?"

      "I am?"

"Yes, you are, would you like to help me stay aware?"

and i think it keeps my attention a little longer before i drift.
