Different Meathods giving different LD times

I have been trying to lucid dream for a while and I haven't had many but i found that the couple MILD's and DILD's i had lasted a couple minutes at most. But one time i was just coming out of a non-lucid dream when the thought all of a sudden popped into my head to do a DEILD. I succeeded and its the only non-MILD/DILD LD i have had but it was much longer than them. I don't get too excited because i always make it that i immediately become very calm as soon as i become lucid so i don't wake so i was always confused why the other methods lasted such a short time.

Does anyone else notice a difference in time that a LD lasts depending on the technique used?

Well, with DILD/MILD you generally aren't becoming lucid until later on in the dream. So, if you had already been dreaming for a significant amount of time, the REM cycle could be approaching its end and the dream may not last as long. Also with DILD/MILD, you go from thinking you are awake to realizing you are dreaming, if you don't have a lot of experience this can be emotional. Which, of course, can shorten the dream time. With DEILD its like giving your REM period defibrillator treatment. So, during DEILD/WILD you will be lucid from the very beginning of the dream. You also don't have to come to the realization that you are dreaming. You are going into the dream directly from the waking state, so the shock emotion doesn't usually factor into the process.

With DEILD, I like to think of it as swimming. When you wake from dreams, and provided you are still in the REM, you can go straight back into a dream, a lucid dream, as many times as you can/want.

Much like swimming. You are swimming underwater in REM. You wake up, or come up to breath, then if you remember to stay still, you can go back under the water, ie sleep, but lucid.

If you get me. Bad metaphor, but I'm not being paid to make them up.
