      WILD in mid afternoon?

Is it possible to have WILD's in the mid afternoon? If so, do you actualy have to fall asleep? Or can you enter right into a dream when u lay down to WILD?

WILDing during the day involves the same process as doing one at night; you lie down and relax deeply, tricking your body into shutting down for sleep and entering a dream. If you WILD in a nap, get up in the morning as you usually do, stay awake for 4-6 hours, then go to bed for the nap.

Some people find it takes less time to enter SP during nap WILD attempts, but others have an easier time entering SP at night. It really depends on you.

      Thanks

Ok, puffin quick question. I had a semi nightmare last night where the girl from F.E.A.R. serious was closing in on me, I think I became lucid and changed the girl so that she was nice. Then I didn't care after that, can that happen?

Didn't want to start a new forum haha

If you knew that you were dreaming (lucidity means having some level of awareness that you don't normally have in dreams, which makes you realize that you're dreaming), then you were lucid.

In many lucids you might not be as aware as you are in waking life (such as now); you might not be as conscious as you'd like to be. In these cases, if you stop reminding yourself that you're dreaming or end up going along with whatever the dream plot is doing, you can forget the fact that you're asleep. This is why it's important to remind yourself that you're in a dream every few minutes, or more frequently than that.

Haha, yeah. Let me clarify a bit. There's two main times you should try a WILD:

      1) In the middle of the night.
You go to bed normally, and wake up after 4-6 hours of sleep. At this time, you have the option of doing a WBTB (wake back to bed technique); it's not required but it's recommended because you should probably wake up a bit before going back to sleep for the attempt. You can do reality checks, and math problems to help wake up the logic section of your mind during the WBTB. Then, go back to bed and WILD.

      2) During the day.
You get up in the morning, stay up for 4-6 hours, then take a nap in order to WILD. You don't need to do a WBTB if you're WILDing during a nap, because you're already awake enough.

I find naptime WILDs easier in terms of reaching SP, but others find their nighttime attempts work better. It really depends on you.

Trying a WILD before any sleep at night is difficult because firstly, you're not that relaxed because you've been up and moving around all day. It's also because you don't enter REM until you have a few hours of sleep. Dreams don't form well if you're not in REM, so even just trying to get into sleep paralysis is difficult without prior sleep, and entering the dream is even harder. If you miraculously make it into a dream, it will most likely be unstable and lacking vividness.

some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

6 hours is good to start with! It's hard to tell which amount of time is right until you try it a few times, but if you don't find that you're getting anywhere with 6, try 5, 4, and maybe even 3 (that's my most successful number).

Ok haha thanks. Glad DV has someone that is so willing to help :p. Do you have a modified WBTB mehod? Because I think if u stay awake for 5min activate ur brain enough, u can go back and WILD?

      No problem!
A WBTB is meant to wake you up enough so that you won't fall asleep during the WILD attempt, but not too much that you won't be able to relax or fall asleep again. You have to find the balance between being awake enough, and too awake, and end up somewhere in the middle. Walking around the house and doing a few adding/subtracting problems does it for me, but someone else who does the same thing might find themselves too wide awake after. Whatever you do for the WBTB, though, try to avoid looking at bright lights such as that of the computer screen.

I typically dream instantly when napping, and my WILDs have happened during naps as well. It is kind of weird to me that naps enter REM so easily.
