Advanced LDer, how soon are you lucid?

I was wondering how quickly an advanced LDer becomes aware they are dreaming. Is it always at the very beginning?

What do you mean with advanced LDers? Cause I don't think I'm advanced, but I've had many DILDs, so I may answer to your question

It depends. Wilds and DEILD are normally instantly. A lot of times I am in a dream for a bit and I just realize I am dreaming. Something will trigger lucidity or I will just somehow know.

I've had my share of lucid dreams. Almost all of them were DILDs though. Generally speaking, they happen within 1-5 minutes into a dream, though, I have had some dreams that just peaked my awareness right from the start. I guess because it was either a false awakening or a new dream.

It tends to be near the beginning of the dream, but it varies with me. I used to be lucid from the moment the dream began all the time, but I've gotten a little out of practice so now I get lucid in the middle a lot. It's something I'll have to work on.

Well I normally WILD, so I go in right at the start of the dream and become lucid. If I become lucid when i'm not doing a WILD I tend to become lucid towards the beginning or middle of the dream.

I was just wondering because I've been getting lucid in the middle through 3 DILD and one accidental WBTB and I wondered if when I get better I would instantly know I'm dreaming. The sooner I know, the longer I can have fun.

Well if you instantly know that you are dreaming when you fall asleep in REM, then it's a WILD.
But if I DILD on a WBTB I usually dream that I am in a different place and then suddenly realise that I am dreaming, so that's pretty "quick" I guess.
But it's really hard to say because it's hard to differ a normal thought in REM, from a dream if it's vivid.. oh wait it's the same thing Well almost anyway.
