Have you ever heard of void meditation? There is a tutorial on it in the DV Academy. I found that when I do that while lying in bed, I quikly fall asleep. The cause of your inability to sleep is most likely the fact that you are anxious about LDing, which is normal. Just relax. A lot of MILD tutorials say that you should try to MILD up to the point you actually lose conciousness, but this can also keep you awake. Do it for a while before going to sleep, and then relax. After all, LDing is easy. You WILL master it, no need to stay awake for it. Hope this helps!

      Hey Spyguy
Thank you that's helped me greatly, good to know that i'm not alone
I'll have a look at the tutorial you recommended now, I guess you're right about being anxious but it is difficult for a relatively new lucid dreamer to remain calm and have that level of confidence that is key to MILDing, well I find it is anyway, could just be me . . .

That's exactly right, but it'll work eventually. Could take a while, but it could also be tonight!

Just noticed when I did eventually collapse and fall asleep I did infact have a vivid dream, I only remembered it just now as I was scrolling through Youtube. Guess I should have stuck to my normal mantra of doing a reality check rather than just "fall asleep damnit " then I might have turned that vivid dream into a lucid dream, my luck I guess
