Can't get fully lucid for the life of me

I decided last night to try to MILD because ive never tried it before. I was up pretty late so when i started saying "i will have a lucid dream tonight" i fell asleep after only saying it about 5 times. In the dream everything was all twirly and i saw my dog and my room twisted and upside down so i said clarity and it went black, then i was in my room alone. I have 2 questions about this though.

      1. I wasn't fully lucid, because in the dream i didn't do all the commands, thinking and RC's i should have (it didn't feel fully lucid).

      2. Since this kind of worked the first night. I'm going to try it for 3 weeks, but if it doesn't work again, does that count as a successful method and i should go past that 3 weeks? or should i move to another method to try?

A friend of mine wrote down on paper 300 times, once per day, 'Tonight when Im dreaming I will realise that Im dreaming'

It took a month for his mnemonic to work.

I would try all the methods... or invent one of your own. Eventually you will find something that works for you.

It is definitely worth trying a technique for longer than 3 weeks. Especially MILD can take a bit longer to settle. That being said, you tried it and had immediate succes, plus you've had succes with it before. I don't think there is a need to worry about it not being effective, that can only have a negative effect on the results. But yes, with MILD I certainly recommend testing it for more than 3 weeks.

Ofcourse, if the technique feels uncomfortable, there is no need to keep going. LDing mustn't become a bother, it must be something both fun to do and fun to try to reach. That way, it won't be like 'damn another fail, now I need to work hard again without results so far', but rather 'hmm no lucid, well nevermind, i'll just go for it again with the epic ...technique '. Never ever let LDing become a bother.

I believe it counts as a lucid or semi lucid. I mean, you shouted the word Clarity, right? Didn't you do that because you knew you were dreaming?

I think it's good that you want to try this technique for a while and test its results. I'm not that familiar with the MILD technique, so I don't really have any advice other than don't give up. And like Spyguy said, even a small success is something to celebrate, not an inconvenience. We are lucky to be able to do such a thing, to become aware that we are dreaming, while we are dreaming.

Best of luck! Continue to post your results.
