      Would this work?

So I was just randomly thinking about reality checks and how I need to do them more. My iPhone came with a reminder app in which you set it to remind you about something that you need to do during your day at a certain time. Unlike an alarm, it just sends a simple tone, or vibrate and pops up with the reminder.

      My thought:

When I wake up every morning, I set a reminder for 5 different times. These will be random times so that I don't get used to doing them only at specific times every day. But the 5th reminder will be in the am hours when I should be dreaming the next night (normally 4:30 or 5:00 am for me). My theory is as follows. This reminder will not be loud enough to wake me. It won't even be enough for me to hear it while I'm dreaming. Getting used to doing reality checks when I get a reminder, and convincing myself that I will get one while I'm dreaming will trick my subconscious into sending a reminder to me in my dream.

I think this could work because expecting a reminder in the middle of the night is the same as saying a mantra such as "I will do a reality check when I am dreaming." It's just a different concept. I will probably combine this method with a mantra before going to bed saying "I will do a reality check at (insert time put for the reminder)."

I know I've read about setting alarms for times in the day to do reality checks, but it's not exactly the same since I'm adding one in the night to convince my subconscious.

I would love to hear your feedback on why you think it will or will not work. Also, if you want to try this with me please do and post results along the way. Thanks!

I have had an experience similar to this method, my alarm on my phone was going off and in my dream I could not get my phone to stop vibrating if I had been expecting to use it I think it would have made me lucid, but this seems like an awesome method and I'm gunna start doing it tonight, I'll let you know how it works out for me and I'll play around with this method to see how it works the best for me. I'll keep you updated with my results.

Sounds pretty good, I think that should work to increase your likelihood of performing an RC in a dream.

If you want something to give you random alerts during the day, I have an app on my iPad called 'Reality Check' which is free, and works quite well.

Sounds cool! And just so you know, it's not verified and I haven't tested it myself. If you choose to do this, I'll be happy to hear about your results!

I just looked it up. That looks really handy, I might have to give it a try. Thanks

Yeah, absolutely. Personally, i think the best times to RC are when you are actually immersed in an activity as during your dream you often are.

Any questions about lucid dreaming? Drop me a PM here!

So, I gave it a shot with the alarm. However, I kept waking up after each dream and just happened to be awake right before the alarm went off so it did not work out right, I will try it again tonight.

Very true statement, that didn't cross my mind!

Lol that has happened to me before with alarms to do attempt a WBTB.

I'm ready to put this to use tonight. My only lucid dream has come from a DILD with a RC so hopefully this works for me pretty well.

Great idea. If the alarm only goes off for a few seconds, you could put it somewhere close, where it will wake you up in the middle of the night. Maybe put your phone in your sock, on vibrate, or in your pillow case, near your ear. If it wakes you up from a dream, lie still and return to the dream, lucid, like a DEILD. Timing it correctly will be the key.

Sound's like a good idea. I would agree with what R.B says about the timing, athough I think getting the right (sound) level might be important as you wouldn't want the alarm to wake you.
Although you did state that you would'nt need to 'hear' the alarm in the dream with your (subconscious) method. However, if you ever did then you could use it as the basis for an externally induced lucid dream (EILD), then back it up with an RC.
I want to try something like this using RED LED's at a low level, sound, or a vibration motor to use just after an early morning WBTB to try to externally 'influence' the dream; where hopefully it generated enough stimulus for me to gain awareness, (and do an RC) but not excessive where it would 'tip the balance' and therefore awake me.
