Exclamation First Lucid Dream, But Something Went Wrong!

I had my first close-to-Lucid last night but something went wrong. Maybe someone with a bit of experience can read my DJ from last night and help me out. I'm pretty sure it's a combination of excitement and losing focus of my dream scene.

April 7: I'm (18) walking around a carnival in a large parking lot with my sister (12). It's cold so i know that its today (April 7) and not the summer. We go over to a giant water tank and sit on the edge with many other people. inside the tank is a Great White Shark named "Angel" that is floating around because it has neither fins or a tail (they have been butchered off). The carnival people are collecting money for the "poor" animal to buy it prosthetics (eg. "Dolphin Tale"). Me an my sister hop up and begin walking away to avoid being caught up in the money scam. we walk towards this building and into a white hallway. At this point I'm no longer aware that my sister is walking with me. I check the time (though I don't remember seeing a clock or watch) and realise it's 10:13am. I start freaking out because I had to be at work at 9am. I start running down the hall while thinking about what I'm going to tell my boss. I do a Prince of Persia-style wall run along the side of the hall. I cling perfectly to the wall which I notice is odd. when I land i stop running and start questioning. I realize that i wouldn't have come to a carnival knowing i had work and that I must be dreaming and I have not in fact missed work. (being late is a bit of a dream sign for me) I realize this means I'm going to have my first Lucid. I exhale and plug my nose to RC. At this moment I collapse to the ground, and my vision goes white and starts flickering. I start having huge convulsions and pains (picture grand maul seizure). Then shaking stopped. I open my eyes and I'm in my bed. I look at my clock and see it's 7:11am. RC for good measure and I'm awake!

I have been trying to LD since Jan 2012 and this is my first real success so I am still quite happy having achieved this, but I'm interested to know what went wrong so I can reach the next step in the future. If some experienced LDer can give me some tips of what to do differently to help become lucid when I realize I'm dreaming that would be awesome.

      Thanks, Minch

You probably woke up because you were too excited, next time you need to calm down once you know your lucid dreaming. Also, when I everything turns white, for me, I just stay still and hope it goes back to the dream. I don't know a real method to get out of that "whiteness". Maybe trying to visualize someplace could help when your dream fades. Also, a GREAT thing to do after RCing, is stabilize your dream so that your ground yourself into it, making it harder to wake up. If you don't know what stabilizing is, a great guide is found here.

Thanks for the tips. I just thought I would add that I wasn't fully Lucid. I was aware and in control, but I had no awareness or detail in my surroundings. It was effectively a non-lucid with 3 seconds of control. I didn't actually finish my RC, right as I began to do it I lost everything. I guess I just need to hope it happens again soon and try to stay calm and focused. I think the seizure thing was me going back to my physical body? Anyway if I wasn't into Lucid Dreaming enough, this has got me hooked!

EDIT: Also I just finished work and everything went fine lol.

Yeah I hate it when I have a short lucid, and then wake up. But it is great motivation to have another one! Also, napping during the day is a great way to go into a lucid dream, because you go right into REM sleep. But you have to do it at a certain time during the day, like a few hours after waking up.

My first lucid was pretty short, also. It was the combination of adrenalin and fear of the unknown that woke me up . You will get over it over the next few lucids. Staying calm takes practice. Congrats on your first, albeit short, lucid dream!
