      Starting over

I've tried several times in my life to LD but always gave up due to lack of results. I am trying again. This time I downloaded a phone app called Lucid Dreamer. It plays a repeated tone, which is like a chime with some running water sounds behind it repeatedly. You set it to go off after you're asleep and at a volume low enough that it won't wake you.

The first night, it woke me up at first. Then I slept through it, but had a more vivid dream than I normally do. Last night, I had 2 dreams and I don't usually have more than one per night. The app never woke me up, but during the second dream, I heard the app while in the dream. I then realized I was dreaming and got really excited. Once that happened, I sort of became paralyzed/frozen in the dream world and everything around me just sort of melted/disintegrated. Then I was floating and unable to move in nothingness for a bit desperately trying to get dream control and then I woke up.

I have journaled my dreams from the last 2 nights. I also just, like 5 minutes ago, downloaded another phone app that will alert me to do reality checks throughout the day. Am I on the right track?

Another question: the phone app has a paid version that lets me replace the tone with some music from my mp3 collection on my phone. I'd like the music better, but I'm afraid I'll just think that I'm listening to music in my dream and not recognize that I'm dreaming. What do you think?

Congratulations, Its up to you to find the technique which works for you!
Have you ever tried Mild, Wild or Deild??
I think you should only change it with a very memorable tone or a manthra spoke in your own voice. Supposedly the best way of executing your technique - EILD - is by having a your voice say "you are dreaming" or something like that while you are asleep.

You've got the right idea, but I don't think you're doing it the best. You are relying heavily on your phone and other external tools to help you LD. I don't think that's a very good idea, because when you're in a dream, you don't always have those things. You won't always have your phone to remind you to do a RC.

I think that you should work more on learning to RC normally and induce dreams that way.

However, if what you're doing DOES work for you, then fine. Keep doing it. Just keep these things in mind.

Wow, that seems to be working well for you. I think you are right about the music. Unless you have something specific in mind, the tone they included should work best. Be sure to make a note of the time when you wake from a dream or a lucid dream. It will help you find out what times are best for dreaming.

Sounds great, but it can take some time to induce an LD if you aren't naturally having them. Giving up for 'lack of results' may not be helping you, your attempts may have got results had you kept trying! Rather then giving up, if you feel there are no results, try adding to your methods, and don't abandon them.
