      Stairway Visualisation

Hi. I'm assuming you all know how to visualise. I'm not going to teach you how to do it, instead I am just going to explain the basics of this particular method. I created this using my own ideas, along with an idea that I picked up on this forum (I can't remember who posted it) to use a staircase.

So, without further ado, let's start by explaining the basic idea of my visualisation.
It is set in a tall building, with 100 floors. It doesn't have to be 100, it can be any number you want. The basic idea is that you start at the top (or bottom, if that's what you prefer) and as you walk down/up the stairs, you can see the floor number on the wall. On each floor, there is a door. This door can lead absolutely anywhere. When you've finished there, you go down/up the stairs to the next floor. You see the next number on the wall. Next to the number is a door. You open the door. Where does it take you? This is the basic idea.

Now, I'm going to explain part of a vis. which I wen't through a couple days ago.

I started at the top floor. I was on a balcony, overlooking a city. I turned around, and saw a big, orange '100' on the wall. There was no door on the top floor. I started to walk down the stairs. I put my hand on the banister, and felt it's cold, rusty, metal texture. I counted the steps it took me to get down.

I saw the '99' on the wall, and next to it, a generic grey metal door. I walked towards the door. I touched the handle. It was cold. I opened the door, and entered into the middle of a bustling city. While taking in the sights and sounds of the scene, I hailed a yellow cab. I opened the car door and sat down in the back seat. Comfy.

The cab driver started a conversation with me. Asked me how I was doing, where I was going. The thing is, I actually didn't know where I was going, so I stayed silent. I made up all sorts of different sights and sounds, as I looked through the car window. I felt the motion of the car as we travelled through the city.

The cab driver pulled up in a generic looking street. It thanked him and said goodbye. I walked towards another door. I opened it and stepped through. I was back on floor 99.

Walking down the stairs again, I put my hand on the railings and tried to make it feel as real as possible. Halfway down the stairs, there was a lady sitting on the stairs. I asked her name, and she said it was Chloe. I asked her what she was doing. She said she was waiting for someone, but she wouldn't tell me who. I continued down the stairs, and arrived at floor 98. The walls were a light blue colour, and the 98 was green. The door was yellow. I put my hand on the door handle. It was warm. I opened the door, and stepped into a quiet beach scene. There were a few people chilling on the sand. The air was hot, and decided I should change my clothing to something a little more appropriate. I lay down on the beach, making small talk with the others. I could hear birds, and the waves of the sea, and I could feel the sand beneath me.

I could go on all day, but you should get the idea.

The rundown incorporates a repetitive aspect of walking down stairs and opening doors, but also leaves alot of room for your imagination to run wild behind each doorway. You could also change it up to suit your own preferences, for example you could use an elevator instead of stairs.

I hope this helps you all.

TL;DR: Walking down a stairway, each floor has a door. Create a different scenario behind each door.

Cool idea I really like it =) I got like twenty different visualization routines likes this one that I have gathered as I tried different ways to meditate.
Robert Monroe's Focus 10, Image Streaming, Gratitude Tool to mention a few. Perhaps I can let the first few floors be a man or a woman waitng for me to guide me through each of these visualizations and when I am finished I enter the Matrix door to my mind and let the wandering mind flow. By this time I should be so relaxed that I have reached hypnagogic imagery that affect my visualization.

There is so much to gain from these kind of exercises, and just like science have accepted lucid dreaming, it's actually on it's way to accept the completley "impossible" phenomena of IQ-enhancement and even remote viewing that can be attained through visualization and by allowing yourself to listening to your mind in these mindstates to let your mind show you the answers to all your questions anything is possible.

It sounds crazy, but just as lucid dreaming it is true! Just think about this, when Einstein tried to solve a problem he didn't think like a normal person would.
Instead he visualized the problem in his mind and saw the solution by looking at it!
      How cool is that?!

Ok I got a little over excited by the power of visualization But thanks for sharing

I'll tell you when I get the nobel prize....

So this is like doing a repetetive task, keeping your mind busy while your body is falling asleep and by doing so you end up in that scenario after a while you've been visualizing? Or do you mean you do this whilst in a dream? Anyways this kind of technique is just what I use whenever I DEILD. I usually use alot of feeling when I try to induce, like shuffling cards or touching objects.

I just posted this to help anyone who is struggling to think of a scenario to visualize, like I used to.

Yeah, it can be used as a WILD, with WBTB, or a DEILD.

And stairways are one of my dreamsigns too, so if I start dreaming about stairs, it should be easier to get lucid

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Tried this with WBTB this morning and it led to the first of several lucids. Very awesome technique. With most other WILD techniques, I'm perpetually wondering " is this working?" With this I felt entertained enough that I just slipped right into a dream. Thanks blue!

Are you saying that this all happens automatically for you? Like you're able to visualize the stairwell in your head, and the woman Chloe was just THROWN into the visualization without any conscious input? And the beach and city and the taxi driver were all unconsciously generated? If so that's fascinating. When I try to do stuff like this, say visualize a box and then open it to see what my mind puts inside the box, to some extent I still feel like "I" have to fill the box, it's not just automatically, randomly filled like it would be if I tried to do this while lucid dreaming.

Nice post. We dream and visualize in the secondary visual cortices (aka cortex) . For me lucid dream induction is all about visualizing while deeply relaxed.

I like this idea, but as just a visualisation i cant keep it going. When i visualize things, like walking down the stairs, i start at the top, but i know there is nothing interesting as i go down, so my mind just skips to the bottom of the stairs. Its quite annoying and takes away from the experience.

Well, not exactly. You have to get the ball rolling by throwing in some stuff. Eventually, if done right, you should see something and be like "Wow, hold on, I didn't create this!", and you should find yourself IN the visualization, instead of being an outside observer. Usually this realisation will shock you out of the state, but with practice you should be able to get used to it.

In my example, Chloe, the cab, the beach, the colour of the doors and the walls, they were all created by me to get the ball rolling. By adding less and less as you progress, your mind should start filling in the blanks.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to do this too. I find that it helps if you actually pay attention the the thing that you are doing, and try to involve your senses as much as possible. Run your hand down the railings, feel its texture, it's temperature, etc. Can you smell anything? Count the steps. Hear your footsteps.

It's hard to get the hang of, but practice makes perfect. Hope this helps

i too, found that it helps to really engage yourself with the senses. The problem is that this puts my brain on overload and blocks out someother things. ill work on it.
