      A DEILD or a DILD?

So, lately, i've been getting lucid dreams in an odd sort of manner.

Usually, i'll be having a nightmare (sometimes not) and just when something bad is supposed to happen or the world is falling apart the dream will fade and i'll be "floating" in a black void, at which point I become lucid. Then, the dream scene changes to that of an actual dream and i'll be lucid right from the start.

This is good and all, but the problem is, I have no idea how I induced it. There isn't any hypnagogic imagery or any strange sounds while in the void and the LD itself is very similar to the DILD LD I had once except I tend to lose lucidity or enter a new non-lucid dream (though that is a different problem.)

That sounds like a DEILD to me. After dreams, I find myself in a void, become lucid for a split second, and wake up. When you're in the void, you're almost awake, but if you can stay still you can reenter a dream and continue sleeping.

It's a DILD because you're still in the dream and that's fact but you are using a technique which is extremely handy for DEILD and DILD. I usually become aware that I am waking up before I DEILD which gives me those few seconds to prepare, I also see the void but obviously not as early as you. You're lucky to recognize it early, I'd say you should try using mantra's to tell yourself that you will recognize it everytime. It really is a great skill to have.

      Sounds like a good idea.

(On a side note, the first time it happened I tried using a mantra. The odd thing was, it wasn't my normal mantra, but simply "memory". That time was probably the only time it has ever happened that I woke up in.)
