      Ignorant in my dreams

I have had one LD that ended very quickly because i got excited and the dream slipped away, but i always do RC's and then when i start to dream i completely forget about them. I have a few dreamsigns but they don't seem to work, the only reason it did last time was because i remember lying in bed not long ago, and did an RC.
      any tips?
I think i need some more dreamsigns, but i can't think of anything that occurs in every dream, or at least alot of them
      thanx

Yeah don't despair, I have exaclty the same problem and it can get very frustrating. I had a few lucids at the start of the year but I can't remember how the hell I realised it was a lucid dream. No matter how much I reinforce to do reality checks, when I go to sleep all that flies out the window.

As for some advice... I suggest to start becoming REALLY involved in y our dream journal and stick to it. I figure that for people like us with this sort of problem the best method to combat it is to 'train' our minds to become more open to lucidity.

I am doing this by trying to make sure my dream journal is as descriptive and detailed as possible. I am doing as many reality checks as I can, and each time I do a reality check I am taking a couple of minutes to say to myself 'tonight I will lucid dream' etc. Most of all I am going to keep doing it until I start to become lucid again because i've tried every other method under the sun with no effect so this time i'm going to stick to something...

Well I hope that has helped you in some way... good luck and stick at it mate.

      a suggestion

i have a suggestion, instead of looking for a specific dreamsign, try to recognize a common dream theme that you often dream about, or that often occurs. for example, i have lots of trouble finding dreamsigns in my dreams, and i often dream of school, being at malls, and other places. if you can find a common theme, then you can replace that with your dreamsign if the theme occurs enough.

then in the waking life you would just have to be aware that you are never in those places when you are having a "normal" day. i hope this helped some!

IMO, ditch the dreamsigns and the RC's since neither seem to be working for you at all. Try techniques like WILD, WBTB, or MILD(go to tutorials for what they are)

Also, instead of RC's, just try to look around you and be very very aware of your surroundings. Like look at the details, know whats going on and question yourself if its normal or if anything seems "out of place". It might sound like RC, but its a bit different and i think it helps more

I'd give every method a few weeks trying before I give it up completely. But RCs don't work for many people, especially if you're only doing RCs. I think the best method, is combining all the info and techniques that you're learning into a customized system that works for you.

The most I've ever done with RCs in my past, was ask myself every once in a while, "Am I dreaming?" Usually, the answer was no, but sometimes, it was yes.

My favorite method combines a few:
      1. Sleep for 5-6 hours, using many mantras of "I will remember my dream. I will have a lucid dream." or something along those lines, etc, before hand (MILD)
      2. try to stay conscious for as long as possible as your body falls asleep (WILD...you may want to have a little coffee, try different amounts to find what works for you--enough so that your mind is conscious, but so your body can sleep, or try doing math in your head to stay mind-awake)
      3. awaken and write down any dreams you may have had and then research LDs for at least an hour (more LD's are reported after two hours, but it's more difficult ot fall back asleep)
      4. go back to sleep (NILD) with mantras and a will to keep your mind awake (unless it is too difficult, then just try to go back to sleep with mantras)

Going back to sleep makes your body fall into REM sleep faster, making your mind more likely to recall your intentions and keep them. If nothing else, with this technique, you will have much more vivid dreams and probably a few dreams a night. As time goes by with this method, you'll probably frind yourself beginning to find things in your dream that you consider odd and you'll begin to have more internal thought. These are signs you're very close.

      Hope this helps!

Oh, and getting too excited is a big problem for beginners. Some methods to help from waking up is spinning, rubbing your hands together, concentrating on all your senses, concentrating on details of your dream, etc.

I've done that so many times, i do a RC and ask myself where i am, and then the next thing everything becomes clear and then i suddenly blackout

its so annoying, i have tried to calm myself down, but still it happens
