My Dog Died, I need to get back in touch with him? Can i do this w/ LD

My 10 year old dog died in my arms a few days ago and I'm heart broken and cant get over his death. It happened so quick. I want to start LD again so I can see my dog again and hug him. I just miss him so very much. Will I be able to accomplish this with LD'ing? I just dont know where to start. I understand what to do as I did LD regularly half a year ago....

Sorry for your loss. I have 2 cats, and I can't imagine coming house and not seeing them.

Make sure to give this introductory thread a read to make sure you understand the basics. After that, it's just a matter of practicing and choosing a technique (you can use this guide in order to find the one that best suits you) that will help you develop the skills for lucid dreaming. Remember that is a long journey, so just focus on consistency and you will start having lucid dreams Also, in case your dog is recurrent in your dreams, make sure to associate a reality check every time you think about it

Good luck! Also, moving this to Attaining Lucidity.

I would say it is very possible to have lucid dreams with your dog, I'm sorry for your loss, I have a 13 year old black Labrador, could not imagine loosing him.. Hope you are alright. But yes, I think you can contact your dog through lucid dreaming, it would just take time and practice.

I'm sorry to hear that man, I have a 5 year old German Shepherd named Freda, I can imagine how hard it is losing an animal friend like that.

It's completely possible, not very hard in fact, you just need to get on track with dream recall, and have a little practice.

All the best and hope your feeling better soon man,

As Maximus said, "Nothing happens to anyone who isn't fitted by nature to bear". Yes, for clarity, I have watched Gladiator over 40 times and I am sane. :')

Loss of a pet companion is always tough. I have lost cats and guinea pigs, and I'm sorry for your loss.

Lucid dreams with pets are possible. But have you though about non-lucids? We had to euthanize one of my cats and i had huge guilt about it. I still do. But once I had a dream about my cat spotting me, running to me and jumping up into my arms. It made me feel much better. As if I was forgiven.

This may not work on first try, but you can try to incubate a dream. As you falling asleep, think about your dog, imagine how you guys used to play and do things. Keep looking at his picture. Let that be your last thought before you fall asleep. You just may have a dream with him. good luck.

you could probably summon up the dog in any lucid dream you have with enough practice. if you're asking can you actually get in touch with the spirit of the dead dog...that's a matter of opinion.

I took it the way that runeword mentioned second, about the spirit. Is that or just have your dog as a dream character?

I'm gonna state my opinion beneath, no hard feelings intended.

Personally I think this isn't a good idea, I think you have to accept the fact that your dog is gone and learn to live with it. Getting in touch with your dog wouldn't replace him right? He would only a projection of your memory, not the real deal.

Whatever you decide to do, my condolences and good luck.

True, but having a chance to say goodbye one more time may ease the pain.

I would think that grief might make lucid dreaming harder, since it is a strong emotion like stress, so you may need to face your grief for a time in waking life before you are ready to lucid dream. I like the idea of non-lucids with the dog - I think those would be easier to induce.

I think it is possible that you can summon your beloved pet (or a representation of) in a lucid dream, however I think it depends on your relative skills in introspection (which include self-awareness, dream recall and control, etc.) in regard to how you may 'experience' or 'attain' it.
I have a lot of dreams which involve both my deceased parents, some of which are lucid. I have had the occasional 'conversation' with them too (although I'm very mindful that the subconscious mind is very powerful, where it is also capable of producing 'representations' based on previous memories of mine.)
I thought I would add that little disclaimer at the end.

I do find some solace in the majority of (but not in all the) dreams, although when you wake up the pain will still be there. (I.e. 'reality.')
Take it from me, if you are good at incubation, etc. (like Gab previously mentions) then this (action) can be carried on through, where the very least your beloved pet dog will be a trusted dreamsign for you, provided you are diligent enough to keep a regular Dream Journal. With practice you should be able to recognise (and act on) this.
Lucid dreaming of your pet can help you relive your memories of them, and if you get really good at it then you can experience all the tactile sensations, vivid visuals and empathy.

I still seek (and experience) too.
Sorry for your loss, and I wish you the very best of luck on your quest.
