      Lucid but not in control?

I've recently become lucid (in-dream) about 5 times after my successful 3 LD's. But for the last few of these recent ones, I become lucid, and then everything turns black, and I either wake up or nothing happens. If i can remember I will do the "do nothing" thing and imagine my surroundings and their textures/feel. it's hard to do anything like that though if as soon as I become lucid everything fades to black, and i'm often too scared to change my surrounding because I usually become lucid after nightmares, in which i am being chased but it's hard imagining safety while having monsters chase you.

Have any of you experienced this black void then waking up? Right after becoming aware?

I'm just confused on what to do really, once lucid.

My first 4 lucid dreams were what you described. What I did, and what I recommend doing, is to practice mantras having to do with stabilization. When you lay down to go to sleep, try saying to yourself something to the extent of "I stabilize all lucid dreams" over and over again. Mantras can be very powerful, but you have to believe what you are saying. Also, sometimes, you just gotta get down and dirty and touch the stuff around you, feel them and make them tangible to you, this can help anchor you to the dream world.

It didn't really work, I became lucid last night and everything went black, and idk how, but I imagined grass and tried to feel pulling it but it still faded into black and i woke up

It's actually pretty common for this to happen during your first few lucids, so don't be discouraged! I assure you they will grow more stable over time. Keep up with the mantras as Lucid Sandman suggested. Most things don't work in just one night, you've gotta stick with it.

If you become lucid and you're aware that the dream is fading to blackness, there's another cool technique you can use to pull yourself directly into another dream. It's called DEILD, the Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream. I've managed to chain several lucids in a row using this method, especially from the black void state that you're describing.

When you feel the dream ending (and you don't think you can fight it), keep a hold of your awareness but remain perfectly still, even if you think you've woken up. (It will work just as well even if you have woken up, as long as you don't move). Just stay perfectly relaxed and still. Think of the dream you were just in (or another dream) and picture yourself going back into it. You may feel a slight buzzing/tingling sensation or it may be a smooth transition. Either way, you should soon re-enter the dream world and it will most likely be much more stable than before.

I hope this is of some use to you! Good luck!
