I had 4 different dreams last night but I coulldn't become selfaware

      Hello

      I'm new to Lucid Dreaming

I tried to have a LD the day before but I ended up not sleeping because my heart was beating fast and including breathing got faster.

But last night I had 4 different dreams and I never even notice I was in them!!! I recorded them all in my dream journal btw.

Since I'm only a beginner, I been only performing DILD for the last two days. I try to stay consistent throughout the day by doing reality checks like 'Am I dreaming' and examining my surroundings. At night when I'm lying down I repeat the mantra in my head ''Next time I'm dreaming, I look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming'' until fall asleep or get really drowsy.

I feel like I made some progress by remembering 4 dreams and actually sleeping last night.

How should I progress from here?

What should I do to help or increase my chances in becoming self aware that I'm in a dream and performing reality checks in my dreams.

      Thank you

You could combine DILD with WBTB (wake back to bed) set your alarm for 5 hours after sleep, then get up for 10-20 minutes and go back to bed repeating that mantra. You'll have more and longer dreams in this period, so your more likely to become aware. Also you could try the MILD technique combined with DILD, easy to do even for beginners, which can be found here http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...id-dreams.html. Remember, it could take a few weeks until you get success.

Hello, I have a few questions before I can start to help guide you the right way

How long have you been practicing lucid dreaming?
How detailed are your recalled dreams?
How you picked out any dream signs?

It sounds to me like you are still fairly new to lucid dreaming, I would suggest really working in dream recall till you have a few solid dream signs identified. Also, work on auto-suggestion, as it can be used to achieve lucidity while attempting DILDs.

I'm just going to begin and say that you can't "Perform DILD". The technique of which you talked about is called MILD.

As far as progression, keep doing what you are doing. It's crucial that you build up your recall, as it's the fundamental base of lucid dreaming, for most beginners.

2 weeks of dream journal entries should be enough. After you have gotten that down, start analysis on your dreams. Find common themes or objects. These are called "dream signs". These are what you should perform your reality checks on when you get to that point.

Lucid dreaming practices are long term activities. You can't expect instant gratification with this hobby. If you have only been doing this for 4 days, you have a long road ahead of you.

Also, what do you mean by "I tried to have a LD"? I don't understand how your heart starting beating fast from this.

Everyone takes different periods of time to get dream recall down, just because they can recall 4 separate dreams does not mean they do so with detail or enough recollection to pick out dream signs. In order to properly identify dream signs and prepare the mind for lucid dreaming, it should be adept enough to remember even the smallest details of dreams.

I am sure what the OP meant by "tried to have an LD" is like many of us in here when we started. They probably laid down, began to feel some sensations as the body was preparing for sleep and got excited thinking it was happening. This is a very common occurrence for beginners, of which I experienced myself while beginning.

      To the OP,

Lucid dreaming cannot be picked up over a week or even a month as Sinister said. It is more a lifestyle that you have to adopt and integrate into your daily routine if you wish to master it. All of us in here that have had multiple lucid experiences have more than likely worked hard at it for periods of time. For me personally, I didn't have one till after 5 months of trying. Keep at it and you will succeed!

The time period was more of a guideline, really.
Took me 6 weeks to find mine.
I've heard of others taking 1 week.

2 weeks worth of dreams, even remembering 1 dream per night, is 14 dreams. 14 dreams is a good starting point to find common themes.
More of an approximation than a set number.

      Thank you very much

I'm still trying to develop my dream recall but I guess my toughest obstacle will be trying to find a dream sign because my dreams aren't detailed enough.

Correct. DILD is the result, and MILD/ADA was the method.

I would recommend you to practice roughly according to these steps:

*Practice your dream recall, until it is excellent
at least 1 dream every night on average, preferably even more

*Decide what you want to do in your first lucid dream
this makes you feel excited, and it also gives you something to do immediately when you become lucid

*Develop your self-awareness and maintain a questioning attitude to your surroundings
for example, how do you know that you are not dreaming right now? Try to prove to yourself that you are actually awake at this moment, because in dreams you typically assume that you are awake
