Attitude is important. Always have an open mind and sincerely ask yourself if you could be dreaming right now. Ignore all the “proof” around you that you're awake for a moment and just do the RC with curiosity about what will actually happen. If you've already convinced yourself that you're not dreaming before you do the RC, you might as well not bother.

Even when the RC does indicate reality, try not to tell yourself that you're not dreaming. I usually tell myself that I simply haven't proven I'm dreaming yet, and I try to remember to continue my day constantly keeping my eyes peeled for any other possible oddities or dream signs.

I often find myself in dreams believing that I'm awake, only to do an RC and be startled to find I'm actually dreaming. After a few of these experiences, it becomes pretty easy to do RCs honestly believing you could be dreaming at any moment no matter how real everything seems.
