Reoccuring dream sign never brings lucidity

      Hi All

I have a regularly occurring dream sign of my boss in work. I always reality check when I see her and on way into work, yet I've never actually RC'd in a dream or become lucid after seeing her. I've a close friend describe something similar, a woman who is v regularly in his dreams, he always RC's when seeing her but never RC's when shes in his dreams. Most of my lucids come from WILD attempts but I'd love to increase lucids n DILD's would be good. Anyone else have a similar experience or ideas on how to make better use of such reoccuring dream sign? perhaps more visualization and intent before bed, intent to meet her in dream and ask why she is there and who is she in dream...or try less habituation of RC when I meet her, try and fly or check light switches or somethin equally odd and freak her out...

      Tnks

It could possibly be that you haven't formed enough of an unconscious association between seeing your boss and doing a reality check. You may just need more practice of doing this in reality for a while before you begin to get more of a "prompting" to do so in dreams. If she appears often enough, it is a good thing to focus on, however I think this sort of habituation will only be effective provided it's accompanied by a mindful reality check each time.

You have to maintain your intention to keep making this association between your boss and dreaming until you're dreaming. If you lose this intention, you won't to make this association in your dreams unless it is so strong that can't help but make one.

Fall asleep with the mindset of waiting until you see your boss. Tell yourself, "once I see my boss, I'm dreaming." Try to not to forget that you are doing this as you are falling asleep.

After each dream that you did not do a reality check while seeing your boss, reimagine the dream, only with you doing a reality check upon seeing your boss. Then tell yourself that you will do this next time.

I like Dolphin's approach to the: 1. Intention & 2. Association. I find these two would be extremely important, especially if you're able to practice this in your waking life.
Possibly even attempt to RC/state check frequently when you see your boss in order to deepen the association. I'm not sure this is Dolphin's approach, and he has more experience than me, but it may help.

I don't believe maintaining intention during waking life is important unless there's a chance of a dream occurring at that point or sometime soon, i.e. the time in bed and a minute or two after waking up. The argument that intention during waking life carries over into dreams only holds water if said intention is still there at the time of the dream.

I equate becoming lucid during a dream with catching a bus. If you intend to catch a bus, and you know what time the bus comes, you don't have to maintain your intention to catch the bus for 12 hours before it comes, because you just could set your intention to be there waiting a few minutes before the bus comes so you could be sure to catch it. On the other hand, you if you do intend to catch the bus for 12 hours, only to drop your intention a few minutes before the bus comes, then you're at the risk of missing it.

      Thanks for replys
I've what seems like a good habit of RC'ing when I see her and using it as an opportunity to deepen mindful awareness and openness to unknown/subconscious workings. Yet perhaps theres something in what Dolphin says as this hasnt carried over into the night yet. By priming myself at night for this particular dream sign, i wonder is this particular dream sign more likely to occur, as while it may have some frequency, its still not every night. I usually set the intention to simply recognize that I'm dreaming...I think re-imagining recognizing dream signs and becoming lucid is good.
