      Question Is this WILDing?

      Hey, dreamers!

So, something really interesting and weird has been happening for a while now and I'd really like to know what this is:

When I'm going to sleep, I have the sound of rain playing on my iPod as ambient background noise. After about 5 minutes or so, I will notice that I can no longer hear the sound of the rain. It's just quiet. But, it seems like once I notice the lack of sound, I "wake myself up" and start hearing the sound of the rain again.

      1. Is this the beginning of a WILD?

      2. What can I do to keep my consciousness in this silence without "waking myself" back up?

      Thanks in advance!
If you were to wake up right now, what would you write in your Dream Journal?

Sounds more like being in NREM 1 or maybe phasing into 2. Depends on what time of night it is. If REM is approaching, most people are going to experience other phenomena, and not just silence. What does it "look" like in this quiet place?

The reason why you're waking up is because you're being too tight with it. Just relax. If you wake up, fine. Just lie there and don't expect anythjng. That's been the best way I can FAC at bedtime. Also, you might be (and probably are) in NREM 1 so "waking up" may be just bumping you up a stage.

It's just black. I don't really think I see any shapes. I just see black.

      What's "FAC" by the way?

And yeah. This usually happens the first time I go to sleep for the night.

FAC means "fall asleep consciously." Definitely NREM 1 and prob. Moving into 2. If you want to WILD, better to wake up after a few hours (4-6) and try when REM is more available. Practicing at bedtime can lead to lucid deep sleep though (which yogis say is our ground awareness or "true" nature) so it depends on what you are after.
