Question how to fall asleep consciously despite a strong feeling of "eagerness" ?

Hello everyone thanks for taking some time to read me ! First I must apologize for my english, as I'm not a native speaker, but I'll try my best to explain my current situation.

A few years ago, I've already tried lucid dreaming with a bad mindset, it failed and I ended up frustrated. But one week ago, I've decided to try again in a more mature and patient way. This time I'm focusing on the WILD technique as I feel it's better for me. I'm keeping a DJ, noting and categorizing my dreamsigns, doing RC and practicing consentration, vizualisation and meditation exercices as I'm reading LaBerge's book "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming".
This is how i generally proceed to induce a lucid dream : I go to sleep at 11pm, do a bit of breath meditation and vizualisation before sleeping. As I'm doing my vizualisation I try to focus on how I'm going to wake up approximately 4.30 hours later, and then with the help of the FILD technique enter a LD. After doing these exercises I have no problem to fall asleep, and I generally wake up as intended 4.30 hours later.

At that moment, I begin to feel a tension and nervousness (in a positive way, as I'm really eager and happy to try to LD, the same kind of feeling as a child before christmas). I sometimes also feel this kind of "happy" nervousness (but not as strong) when I'm vizualising before sleeping, but then I manage to suppress it and relax with breathing meditation. But this time, it's really strong and it's enven renforced by the feeling that I must induce the LD right now as I'm still sleepy otherwise it won't work, so no time for meditation.

Then I begin to FILD/WILD, and this is where things get complicated. first it's quite hard for me to find the balance of sleeping body and conscious mind, I feel that in order to fall asleep my mind "needs" to stop doing the conscious thing it's doing. But I must say that on this point it's getting easier and easier to improve with practice. But the MAIN problem is that my "happy" nervousness and eagerness ( I feel it in my stomach and legs) prevents me from relaxing my mind and body and thus falling asleep ! sometimes I can shut it off for a while, but it comes stronger than ever each time I feel a "sleep" sign like visions or sounds and it totally wakes me up. Despite this I keep trying to induce for 2 hours or so without any result, before finally feeling not sleepy at all and understanding there is no point keep trying for this night. Then I just give up and sleep normally for the remaining of the night.

I think this is definitely the main barrier that is preventing me from LD right now. I would be extremely grateful if any of you guys know how to suppress this counterproductive joy and eagerness, as I'm really motivated to LD and definitely want to succeed

I think you answered yourself - you need to get rid of your eagerness and happiness because you are not falling asleep.
This can be hard when you are still waiting for your first LD. I would say, don't focus on WILD as your primary technique. Continue practicing it but consider it a bonus - if it works, awesome, if it doesn't, that's ok. You are already doing DILD-supporting techniques (journaling, RCs), so why not focus on DILDs for now?
You could even combine it. Wake up, do a short WBTB if needed (write notes about your previous dreams, whatever you remember), do MILD for 15-20 minutes, then switch to something relaxing and meditative (the "I am dreaming" mantra, for example), which also doubles as a WILD anchor. Don't think about trying to fall asleep, just relax. If WILD isn't happening in 15 minutes, reiterate your intention and sleep normally.
Also, drop FILD. It isn't a good technique for people who need a long time to fall asleep when WILDing.

Thanks for your answer ! the thing is that I already tried DILD many years ago and I ended up creating a blockade of frustration around lucid dreaming that forced me for a long pause. I can't stop considering DILD as a failure and that it is not made for me (even though it's probably false but I can't break this feeling), which is the reason why I'm trying with WILD this time. I think the feeling of failure around WILD could break my motivation and my chances of success if I try again and face failure again.

What is so hard about WILD that makes it a poor choice for beginners ?

Do you have a good method of WILD for beginners ? And is really FILD that hard ? I've heard it's the easier way to induce as you just have to relax and fall asleep after WBTB while moving your fingers.

I wouldn't say WILD is necessarily harder for beginners. There are no objectively harder or easier techniques and all good techniques are good for beginners. It really depends on what technique works well for you. WILD can be harder for people who find it hard to fall asleep, though, so learning WILD includes learning to fall asleep and this can be extremely frustrating. DILDs will simply happen sooner or later if you continue practicing. Even if you learn WILD, most probably most of your lucid dreams will still happen through DILD (my ratio is approx. 20-25% WILDs and the rest DILDs).

Most importantly, it isn't either/or. When I started, I often had DILDs after attempting WILD. These days, I do MILD and end up having a WILD. They work well together. And learning both and perfecting it takes time.

Honestly, I am not a fan of FILD. As I understand it, it is designed for people who fall asleep very quickly. The finger movement should only be used at the final moments, for the transition. If you are not getting there after 2 hours, FILD won't help you.
Other than that, it's just another anchor. But it isn't one for me.
My favourite WILD tutorial is this one written by Mzzkc.

thanks for your advice, the tutorial looks great I will try practicing it. I think I also have found a relaxation technique that works great for me, so now I can fall asleep easily.
